“New Codger” Images
I have been asked on numerous occasions how what I call a “Photo-Graphic” is created. The term sort of explains it, in that I developed a method of combining photographs with computer drawn images, of people, buildings, vehicles, boats, et al.
I think I’ll keep the exact method proprietary, for two reasons:
- Just exactly why would I want competition?
- More honestly, it would take way too long to explain.
The computer-drawn images are made using the drawing program in MS Word. When completed the drawing is converted to either a jpeg or a png file.
I combine the completed drawing with one or more photographs, and refine the completed image using my antique PhotoShop software.
Below is perhaps the best example of a photo-graphic, combining computer-drawn caricatures, my photographs of model Harley Davidson motorcycles, and a digital photo provided to me by Ines Hegedus-Garcia. It was used in the Danger Bay Episode “Danger Bay—Episode 79—The Tour.”

I have always enjoyed looking at your work. I too wondered how you did it.
Keep up the good work. I’d love to see something you could do around the golf course. Like on a putting green or something. I am looking for a new header for my NH Real Estate Golfer site.
The fact that you’re using MS Word is a bit troubling, but I still like them.
Jay: Thanks, that in a nutshell, is how I do it. Very time consuming, but I enjoy doing the drawings.
Jeff: Troubling? Hmmmm. Word is the only drawing program I have to work with.Years ago on our Mac Performa we had ClarisWorks, a superior, less memory-intensive drawing program. I’ve found nothing since that works as well, is as user-friendly and not a memory hog!
I’ll have to figure out how to do some cowboy/horse/North Carolina graphics!
Susie: Hmmmm–that would be fun.
Very cool, I love them I would love to have one of a scene of Las Vegas somewhere:)
This is very cool. I just found this page of “how I do it”. We are just glad to see you do.
Thanks!
Wow. Looks similar to Silver Bay MN!
Where do I start as I am a newbie here? Or can I just hop around to different stories?
Silver Bay, and several other North Shore towns influenced my graphics.
Linda, the easiest way is to just dive in. the 4th season just began on Monday. The first time a character is mentioned in each episode there is a handy link that will take you to a thumbnail about him or her. That’s to make it easier to get caught up. Or, you can hop around.
