…And our favorite Republican Linda Davis wins in Ledyard, Connecticut!
By Boomer Jack Boardman
The four of us (L-to-R Boomer Jack, Jay, Fred & Carl), are standing here in front of “Proud Czech” Josef Rusicka’s Joe’s Café & Coffee (Pretty Good Food & Great Coffee), enjoying our porcelain (not china, but made in China), “Danger Bay Collectible Mugs” of organically & shade-grown, fair-trade, Rusicka-Blend coffee in the +26ºF heat of this happy morning in Old Saint Paul, Minnesota!
Happy because the political Dark Side of Payback Politics* has been defeated in the 2nd Ward of our beloved Saint Paul! The far more qualified for office Dave Thune triumphed over political neophyte Bill Hosko in yesterday’s city council & St. Paul school board election.
The results: Dave Thune—2733 votes (53%); Bill Hosko—2399 votes (47%), a mere 384 votes separated the candidates—but it was enough (without the “Payback votes” we wonder what Mr. Hosko’s vote total would have been?)!
If Mr. Hosko wishes to be successful (without the help of the “Payback” crowd) as a candidate in this ward he must first pay his dues, and become consistently active and not dabble, he must be more knowledgeable of the real issues so that he may present some real ideas, not the vague references he made of his vision for the city and finally, he must be more forthcoming in answering simple questions—for example: where he lives (does he REALLY live in the 2nd ward?).
Our hearty CONGRATULATIONS are extended to Dave Thune (who was kind enough to visit Our Saint Paul), Andrew Hine, Co-Chair Thune Campaign Committee, and Jason Gorski, Webmaster? (both of whom also visited us), and all the volunteers who put together a successful campaign!
A special thanks to Jennifer for her courage in giving Our Saint Paul insights about Mr. Hosko.
Last Sunday we endorsed the candidacy of our favorite Republican, Linda Davis of Ledyard, Connecticut, and yesterday we threatened to move to Ledyard, if the good people there didn’t get out and vote for her.
Well, the thought of four Democrats invading their fair town must have frightened them deeply—they came out and returned Linda to the town council (we love it when a plan comes together!).
CONGRATULATIONS LINDA!—YESSS!
*Payback Politics: The blatant efforts of local bars & restaurants “O’Garas, Mancini’s & DeGideo’s” (and probably others) and the “Anybody But Thune” crowd to defeat Thune as revenge for the St. Paul Bar & Restaurant No Smoking Ordinace–now superseded by the Minnesota Clean Indoor Air Act.
Go Linda!
Codger POWER…don’t mess with them!!! Congrats to your dream team!!
In this day and age, Webmonkey is more accurate. There is nothing to master as you well know. It’s more like being a short order cook who never gets a break . . . unless you work on a finite endeavor like a campaign. I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to gab with you at Dave’s party last night. I did get a chance to speak with Jennifer which would not have been possible if she had not read your blog, because of your endorsement, and I think my posting it on Dave’s web page. She really got a political education the hard way, and ultimately rose to the occasion! – impressive.
I was in a hurry to get to all the other parties last night. Melvin’s was great. And from my point of view Debbie’s was great too! – Let me be clear -, I took no pleasure in seeing her shock in losing while having the largest war chest BY FAR in Saint Paul ward politics, but I enjoyed the fact that the owner of Fern’s wasn’t very Fabulous, along with the rest of the Trooien Payback crowd. Hosko was at Mancini’s with three people . . . maybe more would have been there if he had remembered to file the fact that he was having a party with the newspapers. Actually I think it REALLY showed how right you folks were about the payback aspect. Nobody supported Hosko or was interested in his party win or lose. They just wanted to spank Dave. And they did. Just not hard enough.
BTW – Jennifer told me that Hosko told her he was going to move to Montana if he didn’t win – so much for Saint Paul being his home town!
Thanks again and now I’ll be reading your blog more often!
Jason
Bob: Good thing we LIKE you – huh!
Jason: Very interesting insight, thanks. Should Mr. Hosko leave town…well…
Jack

Bob’s right! Codger POWER is amazing!!! don’t mess with those Codgers!
….and wooo hoooo to Linda!
Jennifer: I regret to inform you…I fell asleep and missed the party.
Ines: WooHoo Linda!
Thank you! Your support was much appreciated although….having the 4 of you move to Ledyard would have been quite the treat!
Linda: It was our pleasure to support your efforts–and, well, there’s a chance that I may find my way to Connecticut for a few days to visit ancestral locations (Wethersfield, Rocky Hill and others). Who knows? maybe even bring T along as well!
Certainly a detour to Ledyard would not be out of the question!
