Doggie Danger Bay—Episode 2—the Mission, Part II

Doggie Danger Bay, inspired and written by Daisy Legs Boardman

Previously…Episode 2—the Mission, Part I:

The canines accepted the gift—even though they didn’t need the warmth—and really didn’t have the people-concept of “luck.” They were fussed over by their alpha-people, and gladly accepted the attention.

“Godspeed, little friends,” people-dog Sarah said, with a hint of a tear in her eye.

And just like that, they were gone—on their way to the village of Danger Bay on the Big Lake!

The Mission, Part II:

East Side of Main Street Silverthorn’s & Farkleberry’s ©2008 New CodgersThe dog-people arrived in Danger Bay a split-second later, right on Main Street—not exactly as planned. They wanted to appear in the adjacent woods, but—well—it WAS a long trip.

They were facing east, and the town looked just as Daisy remembered it—Farkleberry’s Star Service and Silverthorn’s Café looked just the way they should.Pooches Arrive in Danger Bay! ©2008 New Codgers

“Daisy, look behind you,” Pepper barked, “What is that?”

Daisy looked behind herself, and bayed: “BOW-WOO!

“What is that?” Pepper arfed, “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

“Me neither,” Daisy woofed quietly, “But that’s where “Swig’s” and your Alpha-Sarah’s ‘Cooper’s General Store’ are supposed to be!”

Alpha-Sarah’s store is GONE?” Pepper barked, just a little too loudly.

“C’mon,” Daisy arfed, “Let’s get out of the light!”

They quickly ran around behind Silverthorn’s Café. Daisy remembered the dog-door that Hiram had installed in the back, so she could grab the snack that was left for her. They found the door, and Daisy pushed it with her paw—it was not locked!

Gamboges turn up in Danger Bay ©2008 New CodgersThey very quietly went in through the dog-door & peeked through to the front of the café…there was a huge human, and two others, who Daisy instantly recognized.

Grrrrrar,” Daisy growled almost quietly, “I KNOW those two humans.”

Millie Gamboge looked at the swinging doors and right at the two companions. It was clear that Daisy’s growl was just a bit too loud.

It’s that DOG!” Millie exclaimed, “What is it doing here?”

Daisy surprised herself…

GRRRARRR!” she snarled, baring her fangs, her back-fur raised, and followed-up with, “BOW-WOOO! BOW-WOOO! BOW-WOOO!

GRRRARRR!” Pepper instantly joined his friend, “ROW-ROW-ROW! GRARRRRR!

Millie & George quickly ran from Silverthorn’s, totally frightened by a brace of small snarling critters. Unfortunately, this had no effect on Big A, as he began to lumber around the counter towards the dogs.

Pepper, RUN!” Daisy barked between snarls and bays, “Get outa here!

I’m sticking with you!” Pepper barked back.

Beta-Pepper—GO!” Daisy a-roofed, “We can’t stop this elephant, you gotta stay free! Now go!

Daisy had “pulled rank,” as team leader she was the alpha-dog on this mission, so Pepper ran quickly out the back and to the woods. He knew Daisy was right, he could do more to help from here—what to do?
