Danger Bay—Episode 19—the Vote

By Molly Halloran

From Episode 18:

“I think we’ve had enough discussion,” Gamboge said, “I move weImage of Village Council Meeting end debate and vote on this.”

“Second,” said Shaddock.

And a vote was taken! The votes were counted, and recounted, hanging chads inspected, allegations of voter intimidation suppressed, and the State Supreme Court decided 5 to 2 that the vote results will stand…WAIT! THIS WAS A VOICE VOTE—WHY AM I WRITING THIS CRAP? JAY! QUIT PUTTING WORDS IN MY MOUTH! Sorry, Gentle Readers—I think Jay was paying me back for emailing a Real World person.

Anyway, the council rejected the proposal by Big Lake Cruises six against to one in favor. Mayor Gamboge was outraged.

Why are you folks so anti-business?” Gamboge stormed, “We had a chance to completely revitalize this backwater, off the beaten path village, and you just squandered that chance.”

“No George,” Hiram senior said mildly, “we kept a promise we made, and our honor.”

“And that is a very expensive promise!” the mayor retorted, and went out the door, chuffed.

“Well?” Simpson asked, smiling.

“Your proposal was rejected, six to one,” the dejected mayor replied.

Fools!” Simpson rumbled, “You failed us, Mayor, we don’t reward failure. We’ll take care of this another way.”

And with that, Allen Stanley Simpson departed, leaving the stricken Mayor Gamboge in his wake.
