“Girl, I’ve known you and been your friend since before Codger’s Corner, and I’m not leaving until you’ve told us the whole story!” Maggie, at once a force of nature, said. “NOW DISH!”

Molly, was overwhelmed by the four, and sensed their concern for her, broke down and told the story of her breakup with Joe Kewl. (You may have noticed the smiles on all in the cabin—that wasn’t coffee in those mugs!)

And now Episode 78:

Molly was staring into her Codger Collectible Mug filled with a rum-based secret concoction (courtesy of Swig’s) and trying to decide where to begin when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

“It’s okay,” Sarah said quietly, as she removed her hand, “if you can’t…”

“…I want to,” Molly replied, gathering her thoughts, “It began back on Big Lake, though I really didn’t give it a lot of thought at the time. Joe asked to postpone the wedding until we reached Daytona Beach. He said he wanted his brother to be best man, and suggested we wait until then.”

“We were wondering about that,” Lysa offered, “I guess we figured there was something like that going on.”

“Things really didn’t change much until we reached salt water,” she continued after a short pull from her mug, “He wanted to move into my cabin, and wasn’t too happy when I told him to wait until after we were married. Then one by one other things kept coming up – he would complain about duty assignments and couldn’t understand why I didn’t step in to change them. I told him he’d have to discuss those matters with Mac or Trigg.”

“Go on,” Ines encouraged as she savored her rum concoction.

“Things really got bad,” Molly continued, “after Chief Pettigrew joined us, Joe was incensed that Cob was hired to a superior position to his, and thought he should have been given the ‘Chief of the Boat’ job. After that, he became increasingly distant. All the red lights and warning sirens went off in my head – I knew then for sure that I could not marry this guy.”

“So?” Maggie asked, “When did you tell him?”

“After we docked at Daytona Beach,” Molly smiled, “I told him. I just said: “I can’t marry you,’ and he turned and walked away. I never saw him again.”

“I wonder if he realized,” Sarah concluded, “that he is a figment of Jay’s imagination, and cannot exist in the ‘Real World,’ only the cyber world.”

Too late now!

The next day, the MV Sparrow arrived in the waters off the Miami area.

“It is good to be at my ‘Real World’ home,” Ines was standing atop the main cabin deck as the Sparrow as she spoke, “It has been too long!”

“Impressive skyline,” Boomer observed.

Lookit all those fancy boats,” Bob exclaimed, “hope we don’t run any down, they’re zipping awfully close.”

“Don’t worry your pretty little head about that,” Ines laughed, “Did I really say ‘pretty?’ They’re used to playing propeller-tag, and besides, Cob is piloting the boat.”

“Chill, Robert!” Lysa laughed, “I was more worried about you & Boomer on the Harleys, and you guys didn’t get run over.”

“Time to get ready,” Sarah said as she started towards her cabin, “Meet you in five in the main cabin.”

Several minutes later, they were ready and in the main cabin. They were joined by Molly and Cob.“We’ve arrived at Miami Beach!” ©2008 New Codgers

“Hi guys,” Ines greeted, “You will join us on our tour, no?”

“Where you going?” Molly asked.

“I’m showing off some of Miami’s unique home architecture,” Ines replied with a wide smile, “You’re welcome to join us.”

“Ahhh…” Molly began.

“…Mac, Molly and I,” Cob interjected, “were thinking of visiting some of my old Navy hangouts, Trigg and Armstrong are going with us.”

“Stay outta jail,” Bob admonished.

“I’m pretty good at that.”

“Hey, where’s Mac & Boomer?” Lysa asked, noticing their conspicuous absence.

“Getting the bikes unloaded,” Ines replied, “cheaper than renting a car.”

“And more fun!” Lysa laughed, “Remember Bob, wheels down, keep the wheels down!”

“Hey!”

To Be CONTINUED…Episode 79—the Tour.

Lysa: Since the drawings for the tour are done, consider that we all had handy chaps and jackets, shed when we dismounted to tour (’cause I ain’t gonna re-draw them)!
