At Silverthorn’s Café

Previously:

If it appears to you, Gentle Reader, that everyone was going to Silverthorn’s…you might just be right….

Chapter IV Episode 3— At Silverthorn’s Café:

Moments later the café began to fill with people ...

"Moments later the café began to fill with people ..."

Boomer & Susie were the first to arrive at Silverthorn’s Café, and upon seeing Sam Silverthorn behind the counter, invoked the memory of Mae West with: “Is that a pistol in your pocket? Or are you…”

Susie!!!” Boomer interrupted, quickly.

“Good morning, Boomer, Susie, coffee?”

“Filler up.”

“Just add a little to my shot-glass. What does the name Silverthorn stand for?”

Susie!!!

“Oh all right!”

Moments later the café began to fill with people as word spread that the new marshal had returned—amazing, isn’t it—just how fast word spreads in a small town? Mayor Maggie Dokic made the appointment “official” with a mayoral announcement: “Congratulations, marshal.”

The now quite full café erupted into cheers and congratulations for the new “official City Marshal” of Danger Bay & Eagle Point Township.

“I hear you did very well at the college.”

“We’re looking forward to common sense law enforcement around here.”

“Party tonight at Swigs!”

Slowly the gathering began to notice that DALE.fm was broadcasting again. “This is DJ Dale broadcasting live from the studio of DALE.fm. The genre for today is….” They didn’t hear the rest as a second round of cheering erupted….they’d been without music for more than a week.

“Where’s Daisy?” asked Sarah, “Is she okay? I thought she’d be with you.”

“She stopped at PawZ to see Buttons & the beagles.”

“Come to think of it, Pepper said something about going there, to visit the other ‘Knights of the Realm,’ whatever that is.”

“Trouble, I think.”

Susie made the rounds visiting each of the villagers, and those who hadn’t already met her, were momentarily taken aback by her sense of humor, but were reassured by her easy-going manner and quick smile.

Most quickly figured out that a response of “SUSIE!!!” was usually in order, and served to make her smile very widely indeed.

“Did you hear what she just said to Medlar?”

“Boy, did his face turn red.”

“Hiram, What did Susie just ask you?”

“Never mind, Kiwi, no harm meant.”

“I know….I just wanted to know the line, I might want to use it.”

Just then the door opened, revealing yet another customer, squeezing his way into the café. “Good morning everyone!”

Just then the door opened, revealing yet another customer

Silverthorn’s became silent….very, very silent….To be Continued…
