Cooper decided they would approach the last mile or so on foot and set the critters out to probe for weak points in the raider line.
On the opposite side of the siege, Marshal Blackmon decided to approach on foot as well, “How soon can your remaining warriors get here?”
“They are gathering from all over our lands and will not arrive until after dark,” Grey Cloud replied.
“I hope that will be soon enough, thank you Grey Cloud.”
“I do as well, Marshal.”
Season VI, Chapter 2, Episode 29:
Erik, Bart, Bill and Boomer grabbed their bedrolls and found a spot in the cellar to get a little rest and were soon asleep, while Larry and Mac, each equipped with a long-range Henry Rifle and a bandolier of .44 cartridges, began moving from window to window and firing a shot or two at each. They weren’t merely shooting, each shot was carefully aimed.
Say what you will about the always-complaining Deputy Larry, he was a wizard with a Henry Rifle—as several raiders discovered; a couple of them—fatally.
Renegade had an idea, “Daisy, Star, Wingfoot, come with me, please.”
“Where?”
“We are near the Human-Raider line, Daisy, let’s go look—I may have a plan to help our human-friends.”
They very quietly moved to a position near the raider-line; occasionally a shot or two would ring out from the line, or from their friends inside the cabin, so they were careful not to raise their heads too high. “Star, what are the chances for us to convince non-sentient wolven-people to help us?”
“Not great, but there is one pack-leader who is very smart, at least by non-sentient standards, who I used to hang around with…”
“What about big cats?”
“Cats? They are so unpredictable.”
“But sentient?”
“There is, but he is evil.”
“All cats are evil—from our point-of view. We must find this cat.”
Daisy did not like this idea, not one little bit, but couldn’t help thinking, “I wonder if LeChat can time-travel?”
Meanwhile, Jonathan Spenser & Major McLintock were on their way to Grand Marais, expecting it to be under the control of McLintock’s men…

LOVE your illustration of Daisy and the wolves with all the dark shapes behind them! Spooky!

Thanks, Sarah. The “spooky” dark shapes are dark because I didn’t want to draw people facing away, so I just made them all black. I like the effect. 🙂

Men, dogs and guns are always going off, in one way or another. Great to bring a cat into the mix. You can always count on them sleeping 23 hours per day (and that is predictable!).
