“Bart will either make it or…”

Previously:

Deputy AJ and Daisy remained away from the others—at Daisy’s insistence, “Why are we here? I need to see if Dad’s okay, Daisy?”

Because, Beta-Andrew, I was told to bring you here.”

By whom, Dad?”

I have not spoken with Alpha-Jack.”

But who?”

Hello Beta-Andy,” a familiar bark startled the deputy and he turned towards the voice.

CUJO!” was all he could manage as he gave his first-dog-ever-in-his-life a through petting & behind-the-ears-scratching.

After a delightful few minutes of people-dog attention, Cujo again barked, “Your time here is over, Beta-Andy, you must come with me.”

Am I dead?”

Deputy AJ finished his sentence in the 21st Century.

No…of course not,” Cujo laughed, “You fulfilled your mission here; to save Alpha-Jack’s life, so now you’re time here has expired, you’re needed back in 2012 Williams’ Station.”

But…” Deputy AJ finished his sentence in the 21st Century.

Daisy just smiled.

As soon as the remaining raiders threw down their weapons and surrendered, and in a rare moment of mental clarity, Larry FlutterMatters set out for the nearest town, Williams’ Station, where he found Adelbert Simpson and told him the news, “The siege has ended, there are many dead, and many raiders captured. Bart Nathaniel has been seriously wounded.”

Simpson smiled widely, “Well, then, it seems as though we have a new use for the Stockade—our first prison. C’mon fellas, let’s pick up our new residents.”

Simpson acted quickly, he and the loggers hitched teams of horses to the stagecoach and a cargo wagon and rounded-up Doc and Philomena McLean. Susan, hearing the commotion outside decided she had to accompany them and wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Inside the cabin Doc Shouse & Big Mac attended the wounded Bart. Mac determined the bullet broke a rib, and Chris checked for obvious signs of internal bleeding (a benefit of finding a modern stethoscope that appeared in her medical bag—Cujo at work…again?), and listened to his lungs; they sounded clear—no tell-tale “gurgling,” and then administered antibiotics, “This is all I can do, and more than an 1873 doc could do. We just have to wait.”

Yeah, no medivac helicopters here,” Mac replied, thinking of Korea & Vietnam, “Bart will either make it or…”

He’ll make it.”

You’re sure?”
