The land was still available from the government, in fact it had just been released for claims, so Boomer staked their claim to some 600 acres on both sides of the creek.

One of the cowboys, who had just claimed an adjacent parcel, took note of Cooper, “If you was dressed like a lady…”

That was a really stupid thing for him to say…

Season VI, Chapter 4 Predators and Victims, Episode 16:

Sarah noticed Boomer’s hand drifting towards one of his Remington .44s, and gently touched the hand, “Oh Daddy, no need for that.”

“Oh Daddy, no need for that.”

Boomer slowly moved his hand away and Sarah looked the cowboy directly in the eye, “I don’t believe we’ve been properly introduced, nor do I believe you are anything close to resembling a gentleman, and I suspect you need spectacles; if you didn’t, you would clearly see that I am a lady, regardless of how I dress.”

“Now lookie here…”

“Hush, now. I’m sure your wife will not be pleased at how you’ve spoken to me, a married woman, would she?” Sarah guessed, correctly, that he was married, “And since it appears we will be neighbors, I will have plenty of opportunities to speak with her.”

“How…?”

“Leave now, and I’ll forget what you said.”

He left, with his friend laughing, “She sure done tol’ you Sam’l!”

As Boomer & Sarah left the land office, Boomer just HAD to ask, “How did you know he’s married? He was wearing gloves.”

“Easy, just before he spoke, he touched his ring finger with his right hand. A dead giveaway.”

Kidd stopped the posse about 1,000 yards back from the prearranged ambush location and peered through a pair of binoculars. He could just make out the ambushers’ positions. He sent 6 men to the west and six to the east to circle around to behind the ambushers.

“Take your time and quietly get in easy rifle range…”

“Take your time and quietly get in easy rifle range. When you’re in position, use the signal mirrors and flash one time. When you see the rest of us move into their range, then and only then pick your targets and open fire.”

Kidd had selected the leader of each six-man team carefully—both were veterans of the War and had done this maneuver many times.

It was all over in seconds—all but two of the ambushers were dead, and the two remaining would soon face justice—Dreadwood-style.
