Doc Shouse at Triple Bar-X

Previously:

For her part, Buttons recognized five of the wranglers as part of the rustling attempt on the Coldwater/Blue Dog mustang expedition and quietly passed the information to Flutters. The wranglers found the site & sound of a small dog barking at a pigeon terribly funny—unable to understand they were speaking to one-another. Flutters, in a flurry of feathers & squawking, flew off towards Coldwater Ranch.

Doc Shouse wasn’t quite so lucky as one of the wranglers walked over to where she was meeting with the foreman, “I think I’ve seen this-here woman somewhere where she shunta been…”

Season VI, Chapter 6 Renegade Marshal, Episode 10:

Without batting an eye, Doc Shouse looked at the wrangler without even a flicker of recognition, “I don’t believe I’ve made your acquaintance, cowboy—the Murdo Saloon, perhaps? Even a veterinarian requires refreshments from time to time.”

There was almost a perceptible sigh of relief from the wrangler that was not lost on the foreman, “This is Rufus Jones, my round-up boss.”

Pleased to meet you, Mr. Jones. Do you reckon that you saw me at the saloon?”

That could be,” Jones replied, smiling—she hadn’t recognized him!

Town Marshal Boomer Jack relieved Hickok at the jail (which has received a much needed makeover), “I imagine you must be hungry by now, Hickok.”

Seven Tables is still serving, and the food is excellent—as for poker—keep your back to the wall.”

“I always do,” Hickok replied as he left.

I always do,” Hickok replied as he left.

No—you won’t, Wild Bill,” Boomer thought out loud as the door closed, “No you won’t.”

You tol’ me you’d help me git our story out marshal,” Derby whined, peering out through bars and interrupting Boomer’s thoughts and causing the slumbering Daisy to stir, her rabbit-chasing dream ended by his voice.

Chief Deputy Hare is an accomplished writer, and he will be relieving me come morning—I expect he’ll bring his notebook. Don’t lie to him; he’ll know if you lie.”

I gotta tell the truth?”

I’m sure the truth will make a damn good yarn.”

Derby paused, thinking the matter over, “I reckon it will at that.”

At Coldwater Ranch, Susie Blackmon was planning a raid…
