“Does this mean he REALLY has gone rogue?”
“That would explain why I couldn’t call him back.”
“But Daisy?” Buttons couldn’t believe Daisy would go rogue.
“Sadly, Buttons, I told her to remain loyal to Boomer, and she has, apparently.”
Boomer Jack, James Butler Hickock, Daisy and Robert “Bobby” Derby, who they found just outside of Dreadwood, were riding south on the prairie, “Well, Boomer, when do you expect to find Richard Derby?”
“Find him? Dickie is DEAD! Marshal Jack kilt him!”
“Have we got a story to tell you, Bobby,” Hickok laughed.
Season VI, Chapter 6 Renegade Marshal, Episode 20—Conclusion:
As Hickok spoke Boomer saw a rider in the distance riding slowly towards them (Oh—before I forget—the horse Wild Bill Hickok is riding IS Randall Kidd’s former horse, Cochise. Don’t ask me GENTLE READER, how Cochise knew to be there as Boomer & Hickok had to leave Dreadwood—I have no idea). The rider, Richard “Dickie” Derby had his head down and didn’t notice the approaching riders.
“Look up, Bobby,” Boomer said, “It appears your brother is riding towards us.”
“But…” Bobby couldn’t believe the approaching rider was his brother. Sure, he looked like Dickie, but, it just couldn’t be. Still, the closer he came, Bobby began to think that he may have abandoned a wounded Dickie…
Richard Derby was almost upon the when he finally looked up, “You AGAIN?”
He reached for his gun, but stopped upon seeing Hickok and Boomer’s guns pointing at him, “Settle down, Dickie, we’re not going to kill you—yet.”
“You’re…you’re…Wild Bill Hickok!” He exclaimed, “I-I expect you want me t’ drop my gun an’ surrender.”
“Nope, you can join us—and your brother, if you wish.”
He hadn’t noticed his brother and quickly rode to his side, “Bobby! What is going on? Yer riding with lawmen?”
“Shet-up Dickie. You were dead, now you’re alive. I don’t know why.”
“Because it wasn’t your time to die,” Boomer answered.
“In fact,” Hickok was smiling, “Before your time comes, you both have a chance to do some good for once in your miserable lives. You can ride with us.”
“I hear-tell you sold yer badge to McLintock,” Bobby had overheard this during his time in the Dreadwood jail, “I ‘spect you’re on the run. What I don’t understand is why Hickok hasn’t kilt you.”
“I was ordered to go renegade by the US Marshal’s Office in Washington DC.”
