Meanwhile, somewhere on the Nebraska prairie…
Season VI—Chapter 8—Wyatt Earp, Episode 3:
AJ Boardman couldn’t quite make out the figure far ahead on the trail, he thought he saw the fellow turn and look back—but he just wasn’t sure.
Moments later, he was startled about out of his skin when a Technicolor™ apparition appeared in front of him, “YIKES! Cujo!”
“Hello Beta Andrew. I’m sorry I startled you, but I just became aware of Kidd on the trail up ahead.”
“Oh…so THAT’S who it is.”
“Yes, and I believe he’s going to find a place where he can get behind you.”
“Ambush?”
“I don’t think so. Remove your badge and act like you’re not aware of him. There is a rock formation ahead, I believe that’s where he’ll try to get behind you. As you get close, go around the formation to your right—and you’ll surprise him.”
“Then what?”
“That’s up to you,” and with that, Cujo disappeared.
Meanwhile, Blackmon and company arrived in Murdo…
There was a bit of a crowd (if one could call 4 cowboys a “crowd”) standing in front of Longacre’s Saloon—and they were paying unusually close attention to the arrival of Blackmon, Cooper and Carpenter. This was not lost any of them, “I reckon they’re expecting us.”
“That would be my guess, Sam. You go inside the saloon and see what’s going on, Jay and I will head for the sheriff’s office.”
“They’ll be pleased by my arrival, I’m sure,” Carpenter was looking forward to causing a stir, and was quite capable of playing that for all it’s worth, “And that’s where the town council hangs out.”
Much to both Blackmon & Cooper’s surprise, Philistine Bulgebottom was still wearing his sheriff’s badge and was sitting behind the desk when they walked in, “I’m just gathering some personal effects—and dropping off my badge. You do understand, there is nothing preventing my from running for this office again, don’t you?”
And without waiting for a reply, he quickly walked out, tossing his badge on the desk.
Back at Coldwater Ranch… “We need to get word to Mac, where’s Flutters?”
“I haven’t seen him, Sarah,” Chris replied, “Maybe I’d better saddle-up…”
“No, that would take too long…how about we send Alice & Benji? They can run faster for longer than any of us.”
“Good idea, but Flutters?”
“Buttons & Pepper; they can find that bird if anyone can.”
To be Continued…
Bonus post? Pepper is really good at finding birds, btw. Actually, they find him. He acts like he’s sleeping on the porch, until a bird lands nearby. Then he FLIPS up and catches it — it’s like an alligator leaping up from the water!
