The marshals reigned-in a scant ten yards in front of the confused raiders, drew their weapons as Marshal Blackmon continued riding up to their leader, One-Eye Muldoon, “Surrender—or die.”
They surrendered.
Meanwhile, Doctor Shouse treated Boomer’s wound—it was a serious wound in the stomach. He was unconscious, his breathing was erratic—she needed better light, and better tools to work with.
“AR-ROOOOO! AR-ROOOOO! AR-ROOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” Daisy bayed unexpectedly, startling Chris. Worse, she recognized it as “the song of the dead” [Hunter 15 Sep 2009]…
At the same moment…in the Great Beyond… “Where am I? Oh wait—I know this place—Crap!”
“CUJOOOOOOO!!!”
Season VI—Chapter 9—Range War, Episode 10—Conclusion:
Mac & Company…Unlike the raiders, the marshals were just a bit more skilled as gun-handlers—and their horses, being sentient, knew how make their gallop as smooth as possible. The marshals hit a raider with about half of their fired rounds—while the best the raiders could do was to put a hole in Big Mac’s hat. The survivors wisely surrendered.
Meanwhile (before we forget about them) somewhere near Dodge City Kansas…If you’ll recall, GENTLE READER, “Wild Bill Hickok and the Derby brothers headed out—for Dodge City, Kansas instead of Wichita acting on Hickok’s hunch.” That hunch helped them to avert the range war from spreading—with the assistance of a local colorful character known as “Festus Haggin.”

Their work done, Hickok and the Derby brothers were heading back to the Coldwater Ranch in the Dakota Territory.
Susie & Company…Chief Deputy US Marshal Blackmon, Deputy US Marshals Jay Cooper and AJ tied the surviving raiders’ hands to their saddles, and returned up the hill, “I’m sorry, there’s nothing I can do for him.”
“Nooooooo!” AJ jumped down from his horse and sprinted to his father’s side.
“Nooooooo!”
“AR-ROOOOO! AR-ROOOOO! AR-ROOOOOOOOOOOO!!!” Daisy bayed again and again—no one tried to stop her.
And finally—in the Great Beyond… Cujo had been on her daily rounds, making sure the new arrivals were acclimating to the Great Beyond, when she noticed an unexpected arrival at the gate.
She quickly transported herself there and…
“Why are you here, Alpha-Jack?”
“Why are you here, Alpha-Jack?”
“Because I’m DEAD?”
Thus ends Chapter 9…but our story…to be Continued…
