In Bigg’s office—Moosehead City… “What do you mean we lost our land lease?”
Sheriff Todd McCoy was really enjoying this and let Biggs rant for a bit, “We caught two of your men running an illegal game in the casino. That’s all it takes. You may petition the Eagle Point Council of Elders if you wish.”
“Which two?”
“An older Black fellow—big guy, and a smaller, bookish fellow—their names escape me at the moment. In any case, they’re on their way to Duluth.”
“Duluth? Why?”
“Federal warrants. I never saw the fellas, as soon as my chief deputy ran their names, the warrants came up, so he notified the FBI. They picked them up a half hour ago.”
“One more question, what is the extent of the Eagle Point Reservation?”
“All of Moosehead County and a mile out from the shoreline onto Lake Superior.”
“Thank you.”
Season 8—Chapter 3—The New Cartel—Episode 10
Continuing our story in Bigg’s office—Moosehead City… Biggs knew that appealing the decision of the Eagle Point Council of Elders would be a waste of time. He made the calls necessary to close the casino and even more importantly, to arrange a replacement operation. A replacement operation that would NOT depend on keeping the Indians happy. He had an idea…
An hour (or so) earlier—in front of the Cooper home… Sarah was still sputtering over Jay’s departure—and Cujo’s rather enigmatic explanation—when he reappeared “Can I assume that whatever you did to change history has been accomplished?”
“Boy have I got a story for you! But first—I’m hungry—Silverthorn’s Café is still serving, right?”
On Historic Highway 61—just north of the Cabin-on-the-Rock… Boomer almost drove right by the historic railroad station without noticing Larry Yatkowsky standing on the platform—looking a bit bewildered. He pulled in, “Looking for a ride, stranger?”
“I’d prefer a bottle of booze, but a ride will will do for now—the train seems to be missing.”
“We don’t have a train—yet.”
“But—oh never mind! Coffee and food will work just as well.”
Meanwhile—at Canal Park in Duluth… A small steamer departed the harbor…
…and set a course towards the Port of Danger Bay.
To be Continued…
