“Great. Boomer and I will get the fast-movers up high to get a broad view of the lake, the rest of you team-up and start the search at Eagle Point with as many planes as we can crew-up.”
“Master Chief Pettigrew called, he’s scrambling all his search & rescue assets as we speak,” AJ shouted, “He has them heading towards Eagle Point.”
“AJ, You’re with me, I need your keen eyes. Daisy (as well as the rest of the dog-people) is not anywhere near.”
Larry and Flutters manned the Cessna 150, Jay and Susie, the big DeHaviland float-plane, and Sarah and Chris the L16 float plane.
The seach began…
Season 8—Chapter 10—British Columbia—Episode 10:
We rejoin our story—near Eagle Point…Where we find Sarah and Chris searching north of Eagle Point—and like all such missions—the excitement soon devolved into boredom, Lake Superior is not the ocean, but still—it contains a whole lot of water and a rugged shoreline with all manner of hidden inlets; each of which must be checked. One inlet looked pretty-much like the last. Many had brooks, streams and rivers emptying into the big lake.
Nature conspired to make this lake beautiful to look upon—but for the unwary—dangerous.
We find Jay and Susie searching south of Eagle Point, the shoreline equally as difficult to search—and equally boring. The big DeHaviland Beaver was not made for comfort; it was made to be tough and reliable, and soon both were squirming to exact all possible comfort out of an uncompromising airplane.
If it wasn’t for the strange conversations Larry and Flutters were having, searching north of Eagle Point would have already joined their compatriots’ discomfort and boredom, “The Master…”
“FLUTTERS! Knock it off with the Master-crap! We have a job to do.”
“Oh Larry, how you underestimate me, much as my canine friend Daisy. My ‘Master’ ramblings are more for my own amusement and can be done without my straying from the task at hand. Rest assured my Canadian countryman, my far-keener-the-any-human-avian-eyes are seeing farther and with more clarity than any human’s. If there is anything out here in our search area—I will find it.”
“Say what?” Larry was flabbergasted, and surprisingly to anyone acquainted with him, almost speechless. Almost, “You sound so…”
“Yes, and no one will believe you should you recall this conversation.
That much is certain.
It was about then that Sarah and Chris noticed a change in the sound of the L16’s engine. Not a good change.
