Previously: “And, Miss Brown & White, he is, as we speak, along with his flock, hanging around Big Rock Island.”
“Has he any information for us?” Sarah asked.
“He might. But, unfortunately, he has no way to tell us.”
“I can fix that, you betcha,” Lar Farkleberry grinned, “How many flight helmets does his flock need?”
“Kin you carry 10 helmets?”
“Does a carrier pigeon speak?”
Season 9—Chapter 1—Search & Rescue—Episode 3—Later, at Rock Island…
Flutters arrived at Rock Island to find Sidney Seagull perched on a rock formation above the cave entrance, “Here you are, Sid, 10 helmets equipped not only with a LF (low frequency) transmitter, but UHF and bluetooth as well.”
“That should help in communicating with the wingless ones—how do they work?”
“The Master has not shared that with me,” Flutters replied, “The ‘how’ is not so important—the fact they work is.”
“Too true—too true. The wingless ones in the cave are careless. Sylvia Seagull managed, quite easily, I should add, to overhear them discussing a new device they are about to test.”
“Yes. They think it will render the wingless ones’ mechanical boats and metal bird’s powerplants useless—causing them to stop running altogether.”
“Any idea when they will test the device?”
“They are having some sort of problem, and need a part,” Sidney continued, “But Sylvia thinks, based on their conversations, not until after the weekend. They are awaiting that part being delivered from Grand Marais. They don’t expect it until Saturday.”
This was important news—but Flutters was so-engaged in showing the Gulls how to use their helmets—he delayed reporting until evening when he realized he hadn’t passed the information on.
“Well, no matter—they won’t get the parts ’til Saturday,” he thought.
