DeHavilland down!

Search & Rescue BannerPreviously: With that, Chris played a bit longer and then handed control of the craft back to Susan—who after warning those below mimicked Chris’ maneuvers exactly and flawlessly before returning to normal, if boring, flight.

As they turned towards the airfield to return home, Chris noticed a small trawler heading northeast. It didn’t seem unusual to her.

It should have.

Season 9—Chapter 1—Search & Rescue—Episode 5—Friday morning, Boomer asked to fly airliner…by AJ who called him on his cell—and as usual—interrupted Boomer’s nap o’clock, “Dad, all airline pilots are out on flights, can you fly me to LaCrosse for my match? Our reserve airliner is fueled and ready to go.”

Huh? What?”

Oh—I’m sorry. Did I wake you?”

Uh…no, the phone did,” Boomer yawned, “What do you need?”

Me and my gear need to get to LaCrosse for tonight’s match. I thought maybe you would fly me there.”

Um sure, but you can take the Mustang.”

Lar is rebuilding the engine.”

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I suppose the ‘liner has to be back?”

Yeah, Saturday morning aerial tour scheduled.”

How are you getting home?”

Grinder’s gonna drive me.”

An hour or so later they were in the air along with Daisy (who insisted on going). The DeHavilland was a purpose-designed people transport—very good at getting into and out of small airfields. It was not good at aerobatics—thus for Boomer—boring.

They’d passed-over Rock Island some time before and as they were approaching the Apostle Islands when the engine began to spew black smoke. Boomer & AJ are about to crash!

Boomer & AJ about to crash

Boomer & AJ about to crash!

Looks like we’re going-down, son! I’m gonna try to put her in the water off that beach—BRACE YOURSELF!

There was no time for Boomer to radio their position before they hit the water hard.

To be Continued…

Forget what I said on yesterday’s post about my character flying conventional aircraft. It appears flying them MIGHT be hazardous to one’s health. 😦

Of course he can’t be grounded….I feel as if we are going to be scrambling soon to find our friends! Then we will be distracted and the strange one can advance his agenda…or the beach they crashed on is where the strange one is? 🙂
