“Master will lead me to them!”

Nevada BannerPreviously: Some distance away…Chris and the Coopers (who too had been persuaded to pin on deputy marshal’s badges) found a high vantage point giving them a panoramic view of a large expanse of desert with PepperCooper and Buttons in the shade of the ruins behind the low wall, and the horses just over the rise behind them. No one could get within a mile of them without being seen.

Hot,” Chris said.

Dry,” Sarah added.

Boring,” Jay groused.

Lets play fetch,” Buttons arfed.

Too hot!” PepperCooper stated, ending the conversation.

The hours dragged on—and on—and on…

Season 9—Chapter 3—Nevada—Episode 11—Larry & Larry… found their vantage point high above and nearly invisible to any riders who might pass by. Larry Yatkowsky was delayed waiting for Larry FlutterMatters to arrive—and when he did he was full of “master” excuses—excuses which were not accepted by Yatkowsky, “Admit it Flutters, you were delayed by hat selection.”

Larry and Larry found their vantage point

“Admit it Flutters, you were delayed by hat selection.”

Oh—all right!” the bird replied, “Proper headgear is important, as is memorizing maps of the desert around Loco, since radio communications won’t exist for many years.”

Memorized?”

With Cujo’s assistance, yes.”

And here—just as the other outposts—the time dragged. Minutes became hours which in turn became days.

And the heat during the daytime, and relative cold at night. Desolate, unforgiving—yet beautiful, offering many visual delights to behold.

Then there was the wind. About halfway through the third night the wind began to blow, sometimes reaching fifty-miles-per-hour and awakening our scouts.

Bandanas were quickly turned into air-filters and all were wishing for goggles by daylight as visibility was almost down to zero.

It was the sharp-eyed Flutters who saw them.

Windstorm almost conceals riders

It was the sharp-eyed Flutters who saw them.

Riders—perhaps a hundred or more—riding past their outpost on the hill, “We have them passing us, Larry!”

Yatkowsky was barely able to see them and before he could say anything, Flutters took off into the storm, “I’ll tell the others!”

How will you…” Yatkowsky started to ask but was interrupted by…

Master will lead me to them!”

Larry could only sigh and hope…

Methinks thinks Fluttermatters that he who scribbles the story’s lines has in his vault of imagination an outcome that will befuddle all except the Master who from afar in the bluest of blue mountains now glistening with the season’s brilliant snow watches in reflective amusement.
