Previously: Somewhere to the trail to Indian Springs—Smith and Co. were in a very foul mood… “It’s all Spencer’s fault!”
“Why do you say that, Jeremiah?”
“He was sure they’d surrender—who ARE them marshals?”
Season 9—Chapter 5—LOCO Part II!—Episode 3—Outside the marshal’s office…
“Good day, marshal, I’m Lt. Thomas, here to collect your prisoners,” the bearded cavalryman said as they rode up slowly.
“Good day Lieutenant, names, Earp, Wyatt Earp. I was not told you would be taking OUR prisoners.”
The lieutenant was taken aback—Wyatt Earp—HERE? He persisted, “Well Marshal Earp, I have my orders.”
“And I have mine, Lieutenant,” Earp’s voice, ominous, “May I see your orders?”
It was not exactly a request, and the “Lieutenant” had, as Earp already knew, no such orders. He also had a hunch, a hunch which proved correct as the soldiers accompanying the officer spurred their horses.
As the “Lieutenant” realized his men were running, he too late decided to run. And then facing two drawn Colt .44s—he decided against running and raised his hands.
“You may dismount, slowly, sonny.”
Earp the carefully disarmed the man and escorted him into the jail, smiling as he secured the door.
“Now, we wait for Marshal Shouse to finish her dinner—she will be oh-so-pleased to make your acquaintence—’Lieutenant’”.
The man looked back through the bars, “What gave us away?”
“Yes, it only had 33 stars, and there are 37 states—no United States Cavalry unit would carry such an outdated pennant.”
Meanwhile, at the house shared by Boomer, Mac, & AJ—the front door burst open…
And five heavily armed men invited themselves to dinner.
They were dressed as US Cavalry.
They rushed into the kitchen where dinner was in progress.
Heavy gunfire erupted.
Just as quickly as it began—it was all over.
