Ride like the wind

Fort Savage BannerPreviously: As soon as he closed the door, “Look, Susie, there are spies for McClellan in the cantina, listening. You have got to get a prisoner out of the Loco jail, I overheard Major McClellan talking to a Jeremiah Smith, who has a plan to fool the town marshal into surrendering him.”

“Did he say when?”

“In the next week or two. What prisoner could possibly be that important?”

“Spencer.”

“Why?”

“Spencer is not his real name, it’s really Johann Schwarzkopf, (Gr-Gr-Great-Grandfather of Millie Schwarzkopf Gamboge), who we’ve been tracking for many years. He has an amazing ability to disappear.”

Chapter 6—Loco Part III—Fort Savage—Episode 12…Still at La Cantina… “Then it is even more important to get him out of that jail.”

“Maybe so, Lieutenant,” Susie was thinking out loud, “But to where? Certainly not here.”

“Yes here. On the far side of the fort there are some buildings, built mostly by opportunists trying to make money off the soldiers, but one of them is mine. It’s secure with few windows; I use it to meet with my NCOs in private. And, my wife lives there.”

“Okay, I’ll present this to Chris.”

About 15 minutes later—outside La Cantina… “Boomer, Jay, & Hiram, canines and horses,” Chris was more than a little reluctant to give the order, “I hate to do this to you—but you, of all of us, are the most likely to get through. Go to Loco as fast as you can, and bring Mr. Spencer to Lt. Wood’s hideaway and warn the marshal about the expected breakout attempt.”

“We can do this,” Pal (Tall-Brave) whinnied, “The only thing which might slow are the—canines.”

“Why, horse-face? You will carry me, and Tempest-Wind will carry his “Poodle.”

“You pick now to use my nickname?” PepperCooper wagged his tail at his “bestie.”

“Okay,” Jay said quietly, “Maybe after we leave the town marshal should leave the jail open and when the raiders come, tell them we have him—and let them try to catch us.”

“I want to go,” Flutters stated, “Aerial recon would help, wouldn’t it?”

“Good, thanks Flutters,” Boomer was itching to get going, “Let’s ride like the wind, Pal!”

If Boomer only knew what Gray Wolf knew…

To be continued…

The art just continues to amaze me…so wonderful. I don’t think the “Poodle” is aboard on this wind driven excursion!
