Major McClellan

Fort Justice BannerPreviously: “We will join you, Colonel,” Chris stated (in such a manner as to make it clear the word “no” was not an option), “If you don’t mind.”

“By all means. But we go in first, you may join the column. And thank you, Marshal.”

A short time later—at the gates to Fort Savage… “HALT!” The sentry atop the wall commanded, “WHO GOES THERE?

Meanwhile—on the trail from Loco… “I found a defensive position—this way!” Flutters said, “Hurry! The outlaws are almost upon you!

Chapter 7—Loco Part IV, Fort Justice—Episode 5… “Lt. Colonel Phineas Cooper. Here to take over command of the post.”

The gates were immediately opened revealing a veteran lieutenant wearing the distinctive hat of the “Black Horse” platoon, “I am Lt. Will Watson sir. Major McClellan is not expecting you. Please come in—the Major doesn’t like surprises. The Black Horse Platoon is delighted by that fact. You’ll find him in his office, sir.”

“Major Washington, Sergeant-Major Little Crow, dismount and come with me, Captain Cooper take charge of the column and send word to Marshal Shouse to dismount and join us.”

“Yes sir,” Captain Cooper replied.

Moments later, Lt. Colonel Cooper ordered the guards to stand aside as he strode directly to McClellan’s door and walked inside where he found the major at his desk, “Major McClellan, come with me please.”

McClelland hesitated.

Cooper and Company confront McClellan

They went outside, “Here are my orders, direct orders from President Ulysses Simpson Grant, to relieve you of command of this post.”

“I don’t recognize these as valid, and you haven’t the strength of forces to force me to leave.”

“Are you referring to 2nd Platoon? They have been essentially destroyed and Captain McMillan has been arrested,” Cooper smiled, “He is a most talkative fellow and has explained your entire operation.”

McClellan just stood there realizing it was over, “What now?”

“You will join McMillan in the guard-house until a court-martial can be arranged.”

Meanwhile—back along the trail from Loco…They found a defensible position and were waiting for the outlaws.

And waiting.

And waiting.

They never arrived.

To be continued…

Awesome and quite satisfying end to McClellan. Anyone watch Hell on Wheels? There is a solider on there that is a sociopath that reminds me of some of these characters.
