Unburdened

Sandra Peterson Banner Previously: Ruby asked, “What are you doing for dinner? My sisters are making all of my favorites tonight and just know they would love for you to join us.”

“Oh I would love to, what time and what shall I bring?”

“Nothing but you,” all four sisters said in unison.

“Be here about seven tonight,” Marion instructed.

Sandra hurried back to Karen’s to get ready for this evening which she just knew in her soul this was going to be an interesting evening.

Season Ten—Chapter Four—Sandra Peterson—Episode 6:

With dinner over and the kitchen cleaned up it was time to relax.  The conversation at dinner had been lively and fun.  Sandra was just so happy to be included in this wonderful quirky family.

Ruby said to Sandra, “Would you like to go for a walk and get rid of some of that wonderful food? It is a good thing I do not eat this way all the time!”

“Sure, let’s walk” Sandra replied, “It looks like a beautiful night.”

They walked down the street

They walked down the street

As they walked down the street, Sandra felt the urge to unburden herself.  She had not told a soul in this town her story.

“I came out of a very abusive and painful relationship before finally ending here.  I had to run twice before I got here and I just pray with all my heart that I do not have to run again.  His name is Zador Ramsey, he was Hungarian born but has been here for many years.  I always thought his name unusual so I looked it up and it means ‘Violent!’  He was that.  I won’t go into the whole thing all I can say that as soon as we were married he became someone I did not know.  When we were dating he never gave a hint of his true self.  It started out with his slapping me around and then he was always sorry for a while and then it got more violent with no sorry.  I think he sensed I was ready to get out because he started to handcuff me to the bed at night and he boarded up the windows of our farmhouse and would lock me in the house when he went to work. I tried every day to escape but he had it locked up tight.”

Sandra took a deep breath and looked at Ruby searching her face.  She saw no pity only concern and a brutal anger.

“My God Sandra, how did you get out?”

Sandra closed her eyes the memory was very painful but she already felt lighter from telling someone her story.

“A little girl just 9 years old was the person who was responsible for my being rescued.”
