Cooper’s band arrived at Williams Station

Previously: The camp followers outnumbered the soldiers two to one.

“The troop is headin’ for Danger Bay, I figger we should head for Williams Station.”

“Why?” Schmidlap asked.

“I hear-tell there be a trading post there,” Fenton replied, “And it’s been abandoned. Go tell Carlson and his bunch, they’ll partner with us—jes like the old days at Snelling.”

Season Ten—Chapter Five—Outpost—Episode 5…Schmidlap, Fenton, Carlson (and his bunch) slowed their pace, allowing the other camp followers to pass, and after a week or so, turned off on the trail to Williams Station—no one missed them—or if they did, figured there’d be that much more “opportunity” for them with Fenton and company gone.

A week or so before this occurred, Lt. Col. Cooper’s band arrived at Williams Station, or more precisely, at the abandoned trading post.

While Cooper, Big Mac and Boomer went inside the post, the others rode into Williams Station to take a look around. Part of their mission was to select a location for a marshal’s office.

Hunger overtook them when they saw that Mrs. Miller’s Seven Tables was open and decided to pay a visit—where else could they satisfy their hunger AND get caught-up on all that’s happened since last they were in town?

After a fine breakfast, along with a fine conversation with the “Miller Boys,” as they were referred to by the citizens of Williams Station, they decided see how the village progressed since they were last here a year ago.

The marshals rode along Main Street where they were welcomed by Professor Hare—still running his college, Adelbert Simpson, president of the bank, and finally, Ira Rohrbacher, owner and operator of “Ira Rohrbacher and Sons Lodging.”

“Welcome back, Marshals,” Rohrbacher smiled, “You folks planning on staying?”

“Welcome back, Marshals,” Rohrbacher smiled, “You folks planning on staying?”

“For now, Mr. Rohrbacher,” Chris replied, “When we left, there was a town marshal here.”

“Got sick last winter and died, I’m sorry to report.”
