Previously: “Ah, Mandy, my daughter, sometimes even here in Danger Bay, there is disappointment,” Sandra explained gently, and then, turning to Chris, “What can we do to help?”
“Mandy has exceptional eyesight, something I discovered when I examined her. With your permission, she can fly with me and be my spotter in the nose of Philip Marlow.”
“Oh Mom—can I?”
Season Eleven—Adventure 4—Cap—Episode 4: “I’ve marked on the chart the two most likely areas where Cap may be,” Big Mac immediately took charge, “Boomer and Cob will take the area off the Upper Peninsula, while Daisy and I cover the closer area.”
“And the others?” Boomer asked.
“I’ve left orders with Crew-Chief Farkleberry to have the Mustang Squadron cover the near area and the remaining Lightnings proceed to assist you & Daisy. Cob—send Molly and the helo towards a midpoint between the two areas.”
Within minutes things began happening:
The first two Lightnings clawed their way into the air…
Molly aboard the Everett Jason Martin departed…
Sandra wanted to help, so Medlar Farkleberry called Collie McIntyre, who was working in the tower and asked her if she could train someone to help—she replied, “Send ‘em up, I sure need the help.”
A few minutes later—Collie began training Sandra in tower operations…
About an hour later… Chris was flying in formation with Boomer & Cob after rushing to catch-up as they headed for the waters off (and out of sight of land at water-level) Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, “Ah Lightning Lima 244—this is Lightning Juliet 258. Come to heading 020, let’s get some distance between us. Maintain that heading for twenty minutes and then return to heading 355 true.”
“Ah—roger that, 258. Changing course to 020.”
Mandy was in awe—never having been in a plane before, “How you doing up there Mandy?”
“Sunshine and I are just fine.”
“Good. When we reach our search-sector in about two hours, keep your eyes out for anything that looks like a boat. It’s between 40 and 60 feet long, a fishing trawler, brown and black.”
“OK Chris we will. I cannot tell you how happy I am here in Danger Bay. Everyone has been so nice and I feel like I belong here. I could not have a better mother.”
Chris smiled, “I know that. Sandra would have moved mountains to find you and bring you here with us. You do belong here just as Sandra does. You will have a wonderful life here and many adventures.”
Mandy and Sunshine scanned the water below and looked toward the horizon. You could almost get dizzy watching the water go by from the plane, but she was determined to do as she was asked. These wonderful people had made her feel as if she belonged. After months in the group home, where she felt so alone. No one was unkind really but there was really no bonding. It seemed as everyone had a shell built up around them. So lonely.
She never wanted to feel that loneliness again.
Meanwhile, Cap waited, and waited…
