Previously: The Moosehead City Council decided to establish a town marshal’s office to relieve the Moosehead County Sheriff’s Department of the more mundane duties of law enforcement.
They hired three retired lawmen; Sergeant Peter Moss, Officers Oliver McLintock and Ralph Peterson—all decorated officers, and equipped them with a pair of “Smart Cars” courtesy of Schmelke BMW of Moosehead City.
One of these men will not survive this adventure.
Finally—at the closed Blue Swallow Motel… “Hello—my name is Juco—and I just saved your miserable lives.”
Adventure 5—Gangsters—Juco—Episode 2… They were stunned to silence by the sudden change of place—and time, and even more so by the apparition of a DOG hovering in mid-air and SPEAKING!
“Cat got your tongue?” the apparition asked.
“Wha—wha—what are you?” Boss McOsker finally asked.
“Your salvation,” Juco replied, “I pulled you out a split second before you all died in a hail of sub-machinegun bullets. 20th Century you are all dead.”
“Wh-what century is this?”
“You are now on the North Shore of Lake Superior in the year 2014,” Jocu let that sink-in for a moment, “And you have new opportunities to explore.”
McOsker was an opportunist—although still stunned, managed to say, “What opportunities?”
Jocu explained what he had in mind.
Meanwhile—Boomer & Daisy just happened to be driving by Peterson’s out on County 61—returning home from an early morning drive to pick-up Cousin Linda.
Neither paid much attention to the two men out front of the place—they should have and would have had they known what would be going-on inside a few minutes later.
“How’s your health, Mr. Peterson?” Placido Mirante asked.
“Just fine,” Ralph Peterson replied, “I had a bit of a cold last week, but, I’m fine now.”
“Just consider our offer—consider accepting it.”
“What has that got to do with my health?”
“If you start feeling poorly, give me a call—you have my number,” Mirante replied as they left.
Meanwhile—Boomer & Daisy arrived… “Ah, Daisy,” Boomer commented as they arrived at home, “Shad Farkleberry brought the boat, as promised. I wonder if Linda is up yet…”
In fact, Linda was up and heard them pull up. She came outside—ready to head for Silverthorn’s Café, and before she said a word—she saw the boat moored at the dock.
To be continued…
