Johnson Brothers

Forest County BannerPreviously: “You fellas are not of the Forest County Res, are you?”

“No, we are Dakotah—from the Dakotas,” Bear cracked-wise, “You Ojibwe may have run us out in the 1800s—but we’re sneaky.”

“As a member of the Eagle Point Band of Ojibwe,” Hiram also cracked-wise, “We will allow you to remain on our lands.”

“Moreover,” Samuel added, “We welcome you to the Eagle Point Band of Ojibwe Reservation.”

“Forest County Reservation has been annexed,” Hiram, Jr. added, “Soon, so too will be Forest County.”

“Wait—WHAT?” Buck exclaimed.

Adventure Eight—Forest County—Episode Four… “You seem surprised,” Hiram grinned, “There was but one member of the former Forest Band remaining, and she was the only vote against annexation.”

“You seem surprised,” Hiram grinned

“You seem surprised,” Hiram grinned

“Surprised? Yes O’ wily Chippewa Chief,” Bear replied, “But not displeased.”

“This may be the best for this town—there is much unemployment and despair hereabouts,” Buck added, “What are the plans—if any?”

“My wife, Kiwidinock, and I own Silverthorn’s Café in Danger Bay,” Hiram, Sr. explained, “And we were looking for a challenge—the café is quite successful, and no longer a challenge—SO—we are going to rehab the casino.”

“An oasis for suckers?”

“No Buck,” Silverthorn’s tone was mild, “In fact, we expect the odds of winning to be higher than at Black Bear in Cloquet—and they’re known as an honest casino—the slots will be programmed for a higher possibility of winning at least, something, and the roulette wheel and blackjack games will be run honestly. Even with all that, this will be very profitable for us.”

“And the community? How do we benefit?”

“I’m a wealthy man, Bear, my family is wealthy—and frugal. We have built our fortune over four generations—so the majority of our casino’s earnings will be invested back into the community.”

“This sounds too good to be true.”

Meanwhile—At Silverthorn’s Café in Danger Bay… We find Kiwi Silverthorn engaged in an interesting conversation with Liam McOsker, his fiancé, Gypsy DeLuca, “Hiram and the boys are in Forest City to look into re-opening the casino—under the ownership of our corporation Silverthorn-Farkleberry Enterprises.”

Kiwi Silverthorn engaged in an interesting conversation

“Hiram and the boys are in Forest City to look into re-opening the casino…”

“Why are you telling us this?” Liam asked, “It is interesting—but I must not associate with gambling, considering the things my brother has done.”

Chris Shouse and William “Billy” Black Cloud walked-in, “THAT may not be a problem.”

“How so, Special-Agent Black Cloud?”

“I determine what you can and cannot do—and if the Silverthorn’s are involved,” Billy replied, “It is something you can do.”

“Let me have a few moments alone with Gypsy,” Liam replied as they stepped away, “What do you think, Gypsy?”

“While there is some concern that we will be in the same environment that we both have known as underhanded and violent. I know that you are not that type of man. Things can be run on the up and up for the pleasure of people who like to take chances with their money. We have gotten to know the Silverthorn’s and Mr. Farkleberry and admire them very much. They accept us as we are now and do not judge our past. The townspeople do not look at us with scorn when we walk down the street. I never dared hope that I would ever have a loving relationship and fall so deeply in love with anyone as I have you.  Now I have grown to love this area and the people in it. Could I dare hope we could build a life together and maybe even have children someday?”

The love than shone from Liam’s eyes almost lit up the room.  He turned to the people he now considers friends and said, “We would be honored to take the position—thank you for the offer!”

To be continued…
