Previously: “You three here to gamble?” Hiram, Jr. quipped with a wide smile.
“No Hy, we’re not,” Boomer replied, “It seems FBI Special Agent Dom Slater REALLY wants to pay us back for, as he called it, ‘skating,’ after the shoot-out in Stanleyville—and he’s involved the Bureau of Indian Affairs.”
“There were four of them, People-Dog Hiram,” Daisy added, “And we covered them with dust when we escaped!”
“Dom Slater is trouble,” Black Cloud frowned, “He’s quite vindictive and not one to cross. Precisely why I like dealing with him.”
“The problem will be with the BIA,” Hy concluded, “They don’t much like our way of doing things here.”
Adventure Nine—Silverthorn’s—Episode Four… “Security just informed me that Slater and the BIA agents just arrived at the front door,” Hiram, Jr. grinned, “They have been told to wait for me—and they’re not happy.”
“Perhaps NOW would be a good time to head for the hills, Alpha-Jack,” Daisy bayed, and for Flutters to get airborne!”
“What do you want me to tell them?” Hiram, Jr. asked.
“Tell them we went home.”
“That’ll make it easy for them.”
“About now—they need something easy, I think,” Boomer replied as he, Daisy and Flutters headed for the back door.
“They’re on their way up now—all of them,” Black Cloud said, “Go now!”
Boomer and company wasted no time sprinting (sprinting? Boomer?) for the back stairs arriving seconds before Dom Slater burst into Black Cloud’s office, “Where are they?”
“Where are who?” Marshal Silverthorn replied.
About fifteen minutes later—on Historic Highway 61… Boomer slowed at the driveway to the (NEW & IMPROVED) Cabin-on-the-Rock, surprising both Daisy and Flutters.
“We don’t live here.”
“We still have quarters here, Daisy,” Boomer grinned, “Besides, Cuzzin Linda has kinda taken-over our lake house.”
They parked Strider in the garage, and surprised Mac, Merle, Kiwi, and the Coopers out on the front Lake Superior Overlook porch, “How-do everyone—how do you feel about harboring three fugitives?”
“Fugitives?” Mac rumbled, “From?”
“Merle, remember that altercation we had in Stanleyville?”
“I guess that makes me a fugitive as well,” Merle grinned, “What’s the plan?”
“How do you feel about time travel?”
“Time travel?” Merle was astounded, “TIME TRAVEL?”
“We’re in,” Jay Cooper said while Sarah and Mac grinned.
Kiwi decided to stick around—she had more decorating to do—but did make a suggestion, “You should invite the others—and add Linda.”
“Cujo? C’mere girl!” Boomer called his old friend, “Merle—I think you’ll enjoy the 1870s.”
