Side Trip

Vacations BannerPreviously: “Are you going to tell me where we are going?”

“No I think I will let you wonder.”

They stopped in Winslow for lunch at the Route 66 Diner. Winslow still had a lot of heritage left which made Chris really happy.

No amount of nagging would make Wyatt tell her where their side trip was going to be, he just smiled and shook his head.

It was very frustrating.

After good night’s sleep in Flagstaff all of a sudden it felt cooler and not quite as desert looking with big pine trees.  The town was very clean and also had a lot of heritage also.  Heading west on State Road 89 A. Sedona was only 29 miles away.

“Are you going to tell me yet where we are going?”

“Hold your horses,” Wyatt replied, “You will know soon enough it is not that far down the road.”

Season 12—Adventure 5—Vacations—Episode 8… Gallup is a pretty town with a lot of Indian Heritage—with many shops selling pottery. They stayed at the famed El Rancho Motel.  Inside were pictures of movie stars that had stayed there. This place had its fabulous moment during the silver-screen era, when movie stars holed up at El Rancho while filming Westerns. The hotel’s mezzanine is bedecked floor-to-ceiling with signed black-and-white glossies of Hollywood heartthrobs from Jean Harlow to Ronald Reagan to Jane Fonda.

The next morning while heading to the Arizona border they noticed they were driving on Wyatt St. and it lead right out to the main drag called “BOARDMAN Avenue.” How awesome was that?

They left “The Land of Enchantment” and drove into Arizona.

“This really reminds me of the 1800’s” Chris said.

“Yes but I have an idea,” Wyatt said at Flagstaff, “I am going to turn left. So let’s not stop today except for lunch and spend the night. Tomorrow we will head southwest and go visit a place I heard about.”
