“This is a harsh business…”

Saskatchewan Part Deux Banner PREVIOUSLY: “I’d say you were successful.”

“I expect we were—we have a place to call home.”

“Where are you folks from—you sound American?”

“Minnesota,” Big Mac replied, “A place on Lake Superior called Danger Bay.”

“What brings you to Saskatchewan?”

“We have friends in O’Roarke’s Drift—moved there from home a few years back.”

“That’s a dangerous place, we’ve been told.”

“We’re dangerous people,” Mac rumbled, “So I guess that works-out.”

Meanwhile—several miles ahead… Flutters found a few Mounties—and something just didn’t look right…

Season 12—Adventure 7—Saskatchewan Part Deux! Episode 4…

Flutters observed for a while—just long enough to decide that those were not real members of the RCMP—and the men in the wagons were—in fact—highwaymen.

Those were not real Mounties He flew directly back to Linda and company to report.

At the same time—Lacy and the marshals arrived in O’Roarke’s Drift…

Lacy suggested they get rooms in what passed for a hotel, then meet her inside the pub—maybe even try their luck at the Blackjack tables.

After securing rooms at the hotel—the marshals went to Clark’s Pub, and split-up with Boomer, Jay and Sarah at one table, and Chris, Wyatt, Paul and Archie at another.

The marshals playing Blackjack After an hour or so of playing—they were about even with the house. This was intentional on their part. Every time it looked as though one or another would win big—they folded—much to the surprise of the dealer.

Eventually one dealer decided he was being gamed, signaled Lacy by touching his brow with his left hand—she responded with a smile. When the other dealer signaled—just after Chris won—and won BIG—Lacy decided that was the time to introduce her new friends to her grandmother.

After the introductions, Christine said to Chris, “That’s a tidy sum you just won—by cheating.”

Chris laughed, “I have no intention of keeping the money…”

“Of course not—split it among the others you rode in with,” she replied, “Consider it a ‘consultant-retention bonus.’ You and the others Lacy brought into our little family will accept my offer to serve here—when not engaged in other duties—keeping our dealers loyal.”

“And if we find a disloyal dealer?”

“I couldn’t help but notice each of you are wearing some impressive hardware in your holsters…”

“That’s a little harsh,” Sarah replied, “Isn’t it?”

“Ah—just as sweet as you look, m’dear,” Christine replied, “This is a harsh business. But I will trust your judgement.”
