PREVIOUSLY: “You may choose not to believe me, but I’ve gone straight,” she replied, “That was grandmother’s final wish for me. I’m going home to Saint Joseph to start a new life.”
“I can’t help but to believe you,” Sarah said, “When will you leave?”
“I can’t leave yet,” She replied, “I have two former members of my gang with me—Juan Mendoza and Jeb Clark, they’re at the hotel across the street. There are those who want me dead.”
“Who?” Boomer asked.
“The Slater brothers and as many as a dozen or so of their friends, not to mention one who calls himself ‘Hawk,’ a changeling. Would you folks ride with me to St. Joe?”
“No,” Jay Cooper replied, “The best place to take-on your enemies is right here in Moosehead County—it is our home and we know it better than any place on earth.”
MEANWHILE—Just outside on the street… Ten strangers rode into town…
…They were searching for Lacy.
Season 13—Adventure 2—Pioneer Moosehead County—Episode 3… “Back room, everyone—NOW!” Jay exclaimed. No one questioned—everyone went to the back room. Except the bartender, an old friend of Mac’s.
Four of them walked into the saloon, “Mornin’ barkeep, four whiskeys please.”
“Coming right up, gents,” the barkeep and owner, Clyde Simmons replied, “Welcome to Moosehead City.”
“Welcome to Moosehead City.”
“We’re lookin’ for a friend, and we think she may be in town.”
“Wimmin don’t come in here much,” Clyde replied, “Least not if they’re ladies. Anyway, there’s been no wimmin in here today.”
“We need to check your back room—I’m sure you won’t mind,” Ed Slater had his hand on his gun, “Right?”
“Feel free—just pay no mind to my unmade bed.”
Several minutes later Slater and company returned, “Yeah, the rooms empty—them beers were on the house—right?”
“As I said, gentlemen—welcome to Moosehead City.”
MEANWHILE—Just outside of Moosehead City… Samuel Silverthorn looked up and saw Flutters in deep trouble. But—it was Chris who took action—she quickly took aim and put a single .44 caliber hole in Hawk’s head—he dropped wordlessly to the ground.
Flutters in deep trouble
The hawk disappeared into the ether—never to be seen again.
“I think it’s time to join our friends in Moosehead City,” She said, “I have a feeling they need our help.”
“Let’s ride,” Silverthorn grinned, “Equine friends run like the wind!”
The thoroughly delighted horses did just that—galloping like only sentient horses can—for hours on end.
Wisely—and without command, the horses slowed to a walk just outside Moosehead City. As they rode into town they saw another ten or so riders arriving from the far end of town.
As they rode into town they saw another ten or so riders…
They could see, even from the distance—they weren’t locals, as they were heavily armed.
To be CONTINUED…
So I was wrong. No Karma, but I did a hell of shot didn’t I?
