“What then?”

Codgers Return Banner ©Jack BoardmanPREVIOUSLY: Cujo arrived with a very-distraught Daisy, “Oh Doc; tell me Alpha-Jack is going to be okay; TELL ME THAT!”

“You have no idea how much I’d like to tell you what you want to hear,” McLean spoke gently, “I just can’t; he’s in extremely critical condition.”

“Cujo,” Daisy pleaded, “Is there nothing you can do? Warp time to before Alpha-Jack was shot?”

“I cannot this time, I’m afraid,” She replied, “You must prepare yourself; and know that REAL WORLD Alpha-Jack is fine, and will remain so.”

“AR-ROOO! AR-ROOO! AR-ROOO!” Daisy bayed. It was not a happy bay; in her mind, she was clearing a path to the Great Beyond for her Alpha-Jack.

Just then a surgical nurse opened the door and asked, “Is there a next of kin of the sheriff here?”

Season 13—Adventure 3—Codgers Return—Episode 9—Scene 1… Outside the operating room… Daisy returned from seeing Boomer, “They give Alpha-Jack a 55% chance of surviving, Doc!”

“I hate to say this, although those are favorable odds,” McLean replied, “That’s a 45% chance he won’t, Daisy.”

“I’m a Beagle, Doc,” Daisy’s tail a-wag, “We’re ALWAYS OPTIMISTIC!”

“Okay, but please be prepared for the worst.”

“No, Doc,” Daisy asserted, “I’m going after the rat-bastards who did this!”

“They’re already in jail.”

“Not them; the rat-bastards who hired them!” Daisy replied, “I’m calling upon all my sentient-critter friends to help. We WILL find them.”

“And if you do?” Doc asked, “What then?”

“Don’t ask,” An angry Daisy replied, “Because there is no freakin’ way you’re going to stop us.”

“What would Boomer say about this?”

“I’m not asking Alpha-Jack,” Daisy fired back, “He’s the Sheriff, and he would not approve.”

“And yet, you’re seeking revenge anyway? That’s pretty cold.”

“Revenge is a dish best served cold,” She said as she trotted out; tail wagging.

She met Cujo in the corridor, “I’m with you, little sister; I’ve already called all out sentient friends. They’re already on their way to our meeting-place. What about our human friends?”

“Leave them out of this, please Cujo. They would never approve.”

Episode 9—Scene 2… On the road to Forest City… Aleev, Bambi, and Gina stopped for lunch in Pine City. They’d skipped breakfast, as there wasn’t a lot to choose from after they’d slept until ten; and the hunger pangs overpowered their need to slip back into Forest City where they planned on an assassination… or two.

They figured they could handle it themselves; their new appearance hiding their true identities. To humans.

They had no idea it wasn’t humans they should be worried about.
