“Get a rope!”

Moosehead County Story Banner II ©Jack BoardmanPreviously: Strider’s 4.5 liter Cosworth-Ford V8 responded causing all four tires to chirp on the pavement as they grabbed for traction. It was only seconds later the hitmen heard and saw Strider coming-up fast astern, “Aw crap! That down-home dude is a cop!”

The driver hit the gas—as if the car had a chance of escaping—still, they had to try. There was simply too much at stake for their operation.

They were just into the “Granite Defile” with Strider riding their back bumper—when the driver hit the breaks—hard.

Not only could Strider out-run their Charger—he could stop a lot quicker and more maneuverable—he stopped in the left lane just off the Charger’s rear bumper.

All four hitmen got out of the car.

“You fellas seem to be in a hurry—I think you ought not speed in my county,” the outnumbered sheriff said mildly without so much as his hand on his Colt .45 Auto.

A little too confident?

Season 13—Adventure 4—Moosehead County—Episode 11—Scene 1… Inside the Granite Defile… The four hitmen just stood there in slack-jawed wonderment, GENTLE READER, they simply could not believe they’d been out-maneuvered by a bunch of local-yokels!

Well—not exactly local-yokels—they were the “Rootin’-Tootinist” bunch of law-enforcement people hard-cases this side of Tombstone Arizona!

“Get a rope!” Chris grinned, “It’s time for some frontier justice.”

“But if we lynch them—we won’t hear what they have to say,” Wyatt Earp IV laughed, and turning to the horrified hitmen, continued, “My name is Wyatt Earp the Fourth, a direct descendant of THAT Wyatt Earp—of the OK Corral in Tombstone Arizona. Luckily for you, I am not that Wyatt Earp—and this is not the OK Corral.”

The collective expressions on the faces of the hitmen was—priceless.

“Bag and tag their firearms and phones,” Sheriff Boomer instructed, “Then cuff them together and place them in the back of Cooper’s pick-up truck.”

“If it’s all the same to you, Sheriff, let’s take them to my jail.”

“Agreed, Wyatt,” Boomer replied, “Run some ballistic tests on their firearms…”

“… and have Doc McLean check their DNA—right?”

“That’s why you make the big bucks.”

Ralph Halvorson approached Sheriff Boomer and said quietly, “Come with me.”

After they were out of earshot of the hitmen, he said, “Mac and Merle are in Moosehead City—maybe it’s time for them to have a chat with the two spies in the Dive Bar…”

“Good idea, make it so.”

Meanwhile—back in Danger Bay…
