It is DIFFICULT to get something past a Codger™!

“You want to show-off your shiny new badge, rookie?” Eagle Talon laughed, “Didn’t you work for Heck?”

“I worked for both men—first for Charlie when I was in high school. He had me helping keeping his junk-yard clean,” Jimmy replied, “And when I was in college, I worked as a tow truck driver for Heck.”

They found Charlie and Heck in front of Charlie’s, “How-do deputies?” Charlie greeted as they got out of the squad, “How’s our favorite roustabout doing?”

“Remarkably well, for a spoiled rich kid,” Eagle Talon replied, “But we’ll knock some sense into him—no matter how much discomfort it causes him.”

“Sergeant Eagle Talon is a hard taskmaster—that’s for sure!”

“C’mon Rookie, let’s pay some courtesy calls on our local hotels.”

Season 13—Adventure 7—Back to Normal?— Episode 3—Scene 1… The first on their list of local hotels, motels and lodges, was The Blue Swallow Motel—nicely located just across Historic US 61 from Lake Superior.

“Run the license plates, Rookie.”

Jimmy Silverthorn ran the plates through the State’s database, “No wants or warrants.”

Neither man noticed the faces peering at them through the windows—or the weapons they were holding, “Let’s talk to the desk clerk.”

“Okay, Sarge,” Silverthorn replied, “To get the clerk’s impressions?”

“Exactly.”

Five minutes later they climbed into their squad and left satisfied that the guests at the motel were simply tourists based upon the clerk’s impressions.

The clerk was wrong.

Back to Normal?— Episode 3—Scene 2… “Welcome to the Codger Lodge, gentlemen,” Medford Ambrose greeted the seven men as they entered, “Are you here to fish?”

“Are they biting?” one of them asked.

“Most days they are—some days they hide.”

“We’ll take our chances. Do you have boats for rent?”

“We have a boat—completely lake worthy, and large enough for all of you.”

“How much?”

“Considering you will occupy all my rooms—no extra cost,” Med replied, ‘Please sign our register, and I’ll need to see your ID’s and record your license plate numbers.”

“No problem,” Willie Running Fox replied, “Here are our plate numbers.”

An hour later they were all registered and on their way out for a day of fishing—or were they?

Back to Normal?— Episode 3—Scene 3… Deputies Eagle Talon & Silverthorn arrived at the Codger Lodge™ and noted the cars parked outside.

Silverthorn ran the plated and (big surprise} found no issues.

“I was just about to call, Deputy,” Med greeted the deputies, “I have a bad feeling about my guests.”

So… we’re now renting out rooms at the lodge, eh? I didn’t realize we were hurting for cash. On the other hand, being an innkeeper could be fun! 😛
