“Let me get this straight…”

Back to Normal Banner ©Jack BoardmanPreviously: Silverthorn blew right past the Hudson—instead of running driving to safety—he put the Crown-Vic into a 180° spin.

When the car stopped, he jumped out using his squad as cover.

The fugitives opened fire with shotguns and semi-automatic assault-style rifles turning Silverthorn’s Crown Vic into Swiss cheese in seconds.

He returned fire using his standard-issue .45 caliber WWII era machine pistol—expertly firing three-round bursts.

The Battle of CR65 was soon over—all seven fugitives were down—three of them forever.

Season 13—Adventure 7—Back to Normal?—Episode 8—Scene 1… The following day—In the Sheriff’s Office… “Let me get this straight—you took-off, by yourself, after seven armed fugitives—is that correct?”

“Yes Sheriff,” probationary Deputy James Silverthorn replied, “I probably shouldn’t have—but they shot, and maybe killed, my partner.”

“What did you do when they stopped?”

In the Sheriff’s Office ©Jack Boardman“What did you do when they stopped?”

“I spun my car around, 180°, and using my car as cover, engaged the fugitives.”

“And you killed three, and wounded four—is that correct?”

“Yes, sir.”

“What could this rookie done better?” Boomer addressed the other deputies in the office.

“I haven’t a clue,” Sarah Cooper grinned.

“He could have outrun them…” Linda replied, “But then they’d still be on the loose.”

“There really was nothing he could have done any better,” Chris replied, “Except, perhaps, not killing any of them.”

“Thanks all. I’ve made my decision—actually two of them. First, Andy, you could not have done anything else but what you did, and second—you’ll be assigned a new squad, and along with that, Special Operations Chief Deputy Shouse will ride with you for one shift—and each of the other ‘Spec-Ops’ here will ride a shift with you—after which your probationary status will end—welcome aboard!”

“Wait!” Chris exclaimed, “Chief deputy?”

“You didn’t notice the change in your belt-badge?” Boomer grinned, “Somebody slipped-into the locker-room and changed the badge.”

Sarah Cooper was grinning, “Guilty.”

While Chris was busy being shocked, Doc McLean and Linda-Sue Johnson entered the office, “Chief Deputy Will Eagle Talon hurting, and still in serious condition…”

“…But he’s going to make it,” Linda-Sue finished Doc’s announcement.

Linda Bryant Halvorson and Sarah Cooper exchanged knowing glances and smiled—it would seem that Linda-Sue and Will Eagle Talon were “an item,” and if not already, will soon be beauty & barber shop topics of conversation.

“Chris? You and Jimmy take the next couple of days off—COMPLETELY off from police work. Come to think of it—I want all Spec-Ops people to take the next two days off—understood?”

“What about you?”

“Big Mac, Jay Merton, Daisy & I are going to hang-out at the Codger Coffee Café.”

In light of the sad shootings in St. Anthony, Minnesota, and in Dallas, Texas, we are going to cut the carnage in our stories to the absolute minimum. Our heroes are good cops and will only resort to violence as a last resort. I’m happy to report the remaining episodes of this “Adventure” have no gratuitous gun-play whatsoever [whew!]. The next “Adventure” entitled—”Every Day Danger Bay“—will have none whatsoever—THAT was planned long before the recent events.
The story-line of this next “Adventure” details the field training of new Sheriff’s Deputy James Silverthorn by Wyatt Earp, IV—as they patrol their way through Moosehead County—and their interactions with the citizens thereof.

Probably a good idea…non-killing coming out of my mouth seemed strange but right. I am sad over the events taking place. 😦
