“Aye, Captain—engaging starboard thrusters,” Jones replied from inside the pilothouse as he sounded the boat’s foghorn to announce their departure, “The MV Sparrow is leaving dock.”

The big boat slowly moved away from the dock, “Hey—there’s a helicopter on the deck,” Joey exclaimed.

“All our boats will have a rescue ‘copter aboard,” Molly explained, “We have an agreement with the Coast Guard to have one aboard each and every time we leave port—too frequently some damn-fool gets into trouble—especially off Eagle Point where there are rocks lurking just below the surface of the water.”

“I hope the ‘copter isn’t needed today.”

“Me too, Debra,” Molly replied.

Season 13—Adventure 8—Every Day Danger Bay—Episode 4—Scene 1… In the Pilothouse… as the MV Sparrow passed the lighthouse onto Lake Superior, “Captain—we’re receiving a distress call.”

“On speakers Mr. Jones.”

“Aye, Captain,” Jones replied.

“Mayday—mayday—mayday!—This is the packet-freighter Portland—we’ve struck rocks northeast of Eagle Point and are sinking—I repeat—Mayday—mayday—mayday!—This is the packet-freighter Portland—we’ve struck rocks northeast of Eagle Point and are sinking!”

“Portland—this is the MV Sparrow. We need your position coordinates!”

“Sparrow—we’ve turned-turtle—I can’t give you coordinates!”

“Standby Portland,” Molly replied.

“Pilot, give us flank-speed towards their probable location!” Molly ordered then switching to another frequency, “Danger Bay Airfield, Danger Bay Airfield—this is MV Sparrow—we need an air-search—anyone available?”

“This Airfield Tower… we have the Historic Air Force meeting here now. I’ll ask them to scramble—where to?”

“Thank you Tower—Northeast of Eagle Point! Look for a packet-freighter hull-up!”

“Roger Sparrow—I’ll make the request!”

Moments later: “MV Sparrow, this Danger Bay Tower—we have four fighters preparing to take off—Flight leader is Colonel Ralph Halvorson.”

“Thank you Tower—I’ll contact him directly.”

Molly advised the Portland, “Thank you Sparrow—we appear to staying afloat for now.”

Every Day Danger Bay—Episode 4—Scene 2… On Overlook Drive… “Show-offs!” Wyatt exclaimed as four fighters—three P51 Mustangs and one P38 Lightning thundered-by, “Ralph Halvorson must have known they had an audience here!”

“An audience who appreciates the show,” Jimmy Silverthorn replied, “What I wouldn’t give for a ride in one of those airplanes.”

“You know Ralph—ask him when you get the chance—he’d be glad to scare the living daylights out of you.”

“Have you been?”

“My girlfriend is a pilot—so yes I have. She flies a P38 Lightning pathfinder. It can take three passengers.”

“Perhaps I should ask her.”

“Be careful what you wish for.”
