Welcoming committee?

Every Day Danger Bay Banner ©Jack BoardmanPreviously: After being assigned to ride with Sheriff Boomer at his request, New Deputy Sheriff James Silverthorne, IV, was a little surprised when the sheriff asked him to drive his squad and follow him out on Historic US 61 to set-up a speed trap. Jimmy didn’t recognize the car the sheriff climbed into—but then again he seemed to be a bit of a motorhead—acquiring all manner of unusual cars & trucks.

When they arrived, they found Wyatt there already, “G’mornin’ Wyatt.”

“Good morning Boomer, Jimmy,” Wyatt replied, “What ARE you driving?”

“My latest sneaky-squad—prepared by AJ.”

“And the Mercury?”

“Your new squad,” Boomer grinned, “To replace that ridiculous red Pontiac.”

“Yes, boss,” Wyatt laughed, “C’mon, kid, let’s set-up a speed trap and welcome new visitors at the northern border of the county.”

“Good hunting, Boss!” Jimmy shouted as they drove off.

Season 13—Adventure 8—Every Day Danger Bay—Episode 7—Scene 1… on Scenic US 61 at the Southern Border of Moosehead County… Sheriff Boomer settled-in at the side of the highway—prepared to welcome visitors to the county.

That particular stretch of Historic 61 was fairly straight, and easy for travelers to gain a little too much speed—and the sheriff was more than happy to greet such travelers—by pulling them over.

Let’s watch, GENTLE READER, and see what happens when the very-next car to pass by—did so at 70mph…

A white car sped past ©Jack Boardman…the very-next car to pass by—did so at 70mph…

Boomer’s squad is a 2016 Ford Focus RS—almost totally stock—but customized by AJ Boardman with the usual police lighting and equipment—AND an 8-speed automatic transmission, replacing the stock 6-speed manual transmission.

Conveniently, the speeder was driving a 2012 Focus SEL—no slouch of a driver’s car in its own right—as REAL WORLD Boomer would attest.

As the sheriff pulled onto the highway the car lit-up like a very-bright Christmas tree and very-quickly caught-up to his prey.

The driver seemingly didn’t notice Boomer right away—he was concentrating on enjoying high-speed run.

Boomer switched on the siren—and his prey quickly pulled-over (cussing himself out for being so stupid as to speed in outstate Minnesota—where local-local cops loved to ticket outsiders), and grabbed his license and proof of insurance card.

“Good morning sir, do you know why I pulled you over?”

“To give me an invitation to the policeman’s ball?”

“Oh HECK no!” Boomer replied, “I pulled you over to welcome you to Moosehead County and its tourist attractions.”

“You’re not going to give me ticket?”

“Nope,” Boomer grinned, “Just a warning—these roads can be dangerous. If fact, there’s a hairpin turn a quarter-mile ahead—you would have found yourself wrapped around a tree.”

“Understood—and a bit surprised.”

“Please make sure you stop at Silverthorne’s Café, enjoy a fine meal and pick-up the available brochures detailing what we have to offer.”

“Will do Sheriff—and I’ll watch my speed.”

Yeah, judging by the performance of OUR Ford Focus SEL (0-60 7.1 sec top speed: 130+ mph roughly equal to a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang)… I *might* just lose you. Ford Focus RS: Engine: Turbocharged & Intercooled inline-4cyl. Horsepower: 350 @ 6000 RPM. All Wheel Drive. 6-Speed Manual Transmission. 0-60 mph: 4.6 Seconds. Top Speed (est) 165 mph. 😀
