Season 13—Adventure 9—County Attorney—Episode 4—Scene 1… Brian Lepus arrived exactly on time for his interview with Judge Fisher, “That’s quite a history you have, counsellor, how is it you escaped prosecution when you left the witness protection program?”
“That’s quite a history you have, counsellor…”
“All reference to my ‘crimes’ were expunged from my record when I joined the program—they could not reinstate the charges as they no longer exist. Moreover, my contact said they’d not even try to get them reinstated—they didn’t expect me to live very long—so they felt there was no point.”
“You are married, I see—ten years now, is that right?”
“Yes, Your Honor, Melissa has stood beside me through good and bad times—and accepted the possible risk of leaving the program.”
“Impressive,” the judge replied, “How do you feel about the ‘presumed innocence’ doctrine of the US Constitution?”
“Very strongly—so strongly that I would never present evidence I believed to be in violation of that doctrine—guilt by implication does not set well with me.”
“What kind of practice have you and Ms. Ames set-up?”
“A general law practice,” Lepus replied, “Between the two of us we have enough experience for most circumstances, and we’re both experienced researchers.”
“Thank you counselor,” Fisher said, “I’ll let you know after I consult with the county board and Judge Jones.”
“Thank you, Your Honor.”
County Attorney—Episode 4—Scene 2… Law office of Lepus & Ames… “Welcome to Lepus and Ames, I’m Melissa Ames, how may help you?”
“…I’m Melissa Ames, how may help you?”
“Hi, I’m Mary Littlefeather. I’m here in answer to your ad for an office assistant.”
“Wonderful! Here’s an application—please fill it out and when you’re done we’ll chat.”
After Littlefeather completed the application, Melissa looked it over and after a few minutes, quipped, “I see you’re still single. Me too—good men are so hard to find.”
“So are good women.”
DUN-DUN-DUNNNN! Our first gay character (Come to think of it—Big A is also single and never married)!
“Ummm—welcome aboard Mary—you’re hired!” Ames recovered from her surprise—her decision unaffected by Littlefeather’s admission.
“Really?”
“Yes, really—when can you start?”
“Now?”
“Let’s get started, let me show you around,” Ames said, “Littlefeather, I believe that’s Kiwi Silverthorn’s maiden name.”
“Yes, it is,” Mary replied, “She’s my sister, we’re fraternal twins.’
Well—don’t that beat all, GENTLE READER?
To be CONTINUED…
And the adventure continues…..

It’s good to be a part of a diversity wave, especially when you’re as pale as I am. 🙂

I’ve been in the sun a lot this summer, otherwise I’d say, “Me too!”
