“Let’s get down to business, gentlemen.”

As he spoke, the riders were at the opposite edge of town.

“Three guys and a woman—riding away from us.”

“Aw Rufe,” Carstairs replied, “Let them go—they’re no threat. I don’t think they even noticed us.”

“Yeah Rufe,” his brother Ade added, “Our time would be better spent in the saloon washing the dust out of our mouths.”

Season 14—Adventure 7—COLLISTA—Episode 4—Scene 1… Outside the McIntyre cabin… “Y’know, Bill? We oughta check on them folks we saw leavin’ town.”

“Well this place ain’t hopping,” Carstairs replied, “Let’s just do that.”

Fifteen minutes later they rode up to Collie and Mac’s place—Collie was outside, “Pardon me, Ma’am, Didn’t we just see you up in Blufftown?”

Collie looked towards the voice, “Maybe—you have a problem with that?”

“You was riding’ with some men.”

“Could you tell us who they were?”

“I could—if I thought it was any of your business.”

“They looked like some fellers we once rode with, out Abilene way.”

“Texas? Naw they never been there, I should know, I’m married to one of them. We just got back from Grand Forks, up Dakota way.”

“Oh yeah, What doin’?”

“Drivin’ cattle out of Canada.”

“You’re the cook?”

“Aw hell-no, I was the trail boss.”

“A trail boss? Now don’t that beat all. What does your husband think about that?”

“He was the cook—Sonny,” Collie replied, “Oh how that man can cook!”

“You are packing some mighty-big shooting-irons…” Carstairs began, but was interrupted when Collie drew one of her .44s and had it pointed at his head, “Yup—they are big, sonny-boy.”

“I reckon you’re a fair shot?”

“You want a demonstration?” Collie asked, “Hat—or boots?”

“That’s all right, ma’am—save your ammunition. I may have payin’ work for you, and, of course, your man—is he good with a gun?”

“He taught me,” Collie grinned, “You and two others, c’mon in and we’ll talk.”

“Hank, Rufe, come with me,” Carstairs ordered, “The rest of you scout the rest of the town.”

“Shouldn’t your husband join us?” Carstairs asked.

“He’s getting supplies,” Collie replied, “For dinner. If he gets back before we’re done, he’ll join us.”

“Ain’t you a-feared, little lady?” Hank Carlson asked, “All alone and all?”

“Sonny?” she replied with a touch of sarcasm, “It is you who should be ‘a-feared,’ I got y’all outnumbered—so shut-up—or leave.”

They remind me of contractors/salespeople who don’t want to talk to the wife and ask, “Are you authorized to make decisions for the family?” ::eye roll::
