“JOEY!”

HIRAM Banner ©Jack BoardmanPREVIOUSLY: “The map shows the road we just passed is ten miles shorter than following the lake shore highway,” Farkleberry observed, “Maybe we should take that way.”

“Maybe,” Hiram replied, “And we may just avoid the bad guys headed our way.”

“That would be good, Hy.”

“As soon as that line of traffic passes, we’ll flip a u-turn and visit Wilberville. We can get gas & food there, I hope.”

As it happened—the last of the Crusader’s trucks pulled on to the Lake Shore Highway—directly in front of the Greyhound bus booking along at 65mph.

Good thing, too—it prevented him from seeing Hiram and Medlar.

Season 15—Adventure 2—HIRAM—Episode SEVEN—Scene 1… Downtown Wilberville… Inside the “Saloon & Café… “Let’s do the food part first, Hiram—my stomach thinks my throat’s cut!”

“You know what I like most about my truck, Lar?”

“What’s that?”

“It doesn’t complain about being hungry.”

“I can seat you now, gentlemen,” Diane Smith Wilber said without smiling, “But, I’m gonna have to call my father-in-law and tell him that you’re here—he’s lookin’ for you.”

“Why, fer heck’s sake are yuh gonna do that?” Farkleberry said in his bumpkin affectation, “All we want is a meal.”

“You fellas are government agents—here to take away our 2nd Amendment rights.”

“No,” Hiram smiled, “We are not. I own several cafés and fine dining operations—and my friend here is in the automotive sales, repair and parts business.”

Diane was not a total ideologue, “I reckon I can wait until you’ve eaten. But that’s all, because in this town everybody reports to my father-in-law. He’s out looking for you two right now.”

“Thank you. You can tell him the truth—we are headed for Canada to visit the northern branch of my Eagle Point Band of Ojibwe.”

Episode SEVEN—Scene 2… Downtown Wilberville… “There they are!” Debra exclaimed, “For old farts—they make pretty-good time!”

“I’ll tell them what you said.”

JOEY!

“I’m hungry,” Joey announced, “Let’s go inside.”

“No, we’d best wait out here,” Chris replied.

“But—I’m hungry!”

Chris! Don’t you understand when the stomach speaks it must be heard? However, it is probably best if they wait outside to cover the old farts backsides 🙂
