“And I hired AJ to do the job.”

“Okay—twenty-five grand.”

“I don’t have that much,” she replied, “But I do control our franchises. With my husband out-of-the-way, I can take-on a partner. If you were that partner, you stand to make a whole lot more money.”

Carstairs mulled the offer for several minutes, “I’ll farm-out the job to put some distance away from the killing.”

“Who?”

“You’d best not know. In fact, I won’t know. The guy I’m contacting will select the mechanic to do the job. We won’t know the job is done until it hits the news. Now—what name is he going under?”

She told him.

Season 15—Adventure 4—Gates Read—Episode 10—Scene 1… The Roadhouse Grill on Scenic US 61… Carstairs had been on the phone and after he finished with his calls he turned to Janine Wilbur, “Twelve grand will do the job—you and I will split the cost.”

“Fair enough,” She replied, “Payment after we know the job is done.”

“That’s not how it works, I will pay half now, you will pay the rest when we know he’s dead.”

“Okay,” Wilbur agreed, “I hope it’s a painful demise.”

Episode 10—Scene 2… A week later inside Boomer’s Cabin… “So—this Gates Read fellow wanted to know if I was interested in the ‘Hellfire & Brimstone’ Christian belief.”

“And how did you reply?” Jay asked—grinning.

“The truth,” Boomer replied, “But also, where he could find folks who favor that style of expressing their faith.”

“Tag isn’t for everyone, I guess.”

Just then, there was a knock on the door, “Not another salesman—of any kind—I hope.”

Allen “Big A” Simpson walked-in—dressed as a gangster for a bad B-movie, followed closely by a similarly dressed AJ.

“Halloween isn’t for a few months yet!” Boomer laughed, “And I’m fresh out of candy.”

Big A and AJ arrived ©Jack Boardman“Halloween isn’t for a few months yet!”

“We know,” Big A replied, “Remember back in the day when I was a bad guy? Well, yesterday I received a call from an old associate—he wanted me to find a ‘mechanic’ to do a job—read ‘mechanic’ as hit man. We just wanted to have a little fun with it.”

“How does that involve my son?”

“Because I sometimes work as a mechanic?”

“There’s someone who wants this preacher, Gates Read, killed,” Simpson explained, “And I hired AJ to do the job.”

To be—CONTINUED…

I am loving the irony here with the play on “Mechanic” lol now Big Al and AJ can split 6 large ones. Oh, wait Wyatt will take it away from them as evidence of intent to commit a crime. (I have been watching way too much Law and Order and all 3 NCIS lol) 🙂 🔫 💣 🔪 🗡 ⚖️
