PREVIOUSLY: Allen “Big A” Simpson walked-in—dressed as a gangster for a bad B-movie, followed closely by a similarly dressed AJ.

“Halloween isn’t for a few months yet!” Boomer laughed, “And I’m fresh out of candy.”

“We know,” Big A replied, “Remember back in the day when I was a bad guy? Well, yesterday I received a call from an old associate—he wanted me to find a ‘mechanic’ to do a job—read ‘mechanic’ as hit man. We just wanted to have a little fun with it.”

“How does that involve my son?”

“Because I sometimes work as a mechanic?”

“There’s someone who wants this preacher, Gates Read, killed,” Simpson explained, “And I hired AJ to do the job.”

Season 15—Adventure 4—Gates Read—Episode 11—Scene 1… “Read was here just the other day—he left his card,” Boomer said, “I’ll tell him what’s planned and have him come here.”

A half-hour later the Reverend Gates Read arrived.

“Welcome Reverend Read,” Boomer greeted him as came in, “Or should I have said Rupert Festus Wilbur, Jr.?”

He was stunned to silence.

“Who put the hit out on you?”

“Probably my wife,” Wilbur replied, “Now what?”

“First, we have your hitman right here,” Big A said, “Dead-Eye Andrew. What we need to know is where we can find your wife.”

“She lives in a condo somewhere in Danger Bay.”

“C’mon Al,” AJ said, “I know where—Dad? Will you have the sheriff meet us there?”

“This,” Big A smiled, “Will be fun!”

Episode 11—Scene 2… Danger Bay Condominiums… She was pacing the floor and listening to the local news—she’d been doing a lot of pacing and listening for the past several days:

“Leading the news this hour on DALE-FM 106.9—Man found

dead after gunshots were heard by a neighbor—the victim has

been identified as Reverend Gates Read. He died of a single

shot to the head—the sheriff’s department is investigating—

DALE-FM will update this story as we get new information—

Janine Wilbur smiled.

She was startled by a knock on her door, “Who is it?”

“Your husband is dead—we’re here to collect the balance of our fee.”

She looked through the peephole and saw two men dressed as gangsters out of a cheesy old movie, “C’mon lady—open the door. We really don’t want this to get ugly.”

She let them in and just as she gave them the money there was another knock on the door.

“I’ll get that,” the smaller of the two said as he opened the door.

“Hello—I’m Sheriff Silverthorn. You are under arrest.”

“Hello—I’m Sheriff Silverthorn.”
