“Should I change my appearance?”

“Yes, Your Honor.”

The judge was silent for some time—on purpose.

A full ten minutes passed before he continued…

“Reverend Wilbur, you are free to go—but, I warn you NOT to re-form your so-called ‘Militia.’ If you do—you will feel my wrath. Understood?”

“Yes, Your Honor.”

“Your Honor, my client’s name has been legally changed to Gates Read.”

“Thank you, counsellor,” the judge replied, “Reverend Read, you are free to go.”

Episode 6—Scene 3… Kellogg Boulevard Courthouse entry Anticipating the outcome, Read’s attorney had arranged for his truck to be delivered to St. Paul and it was awaiting him as he left the courthouse.

“Life is good!” Read thought.

For now, Reverend—for now.

Season 15—Adventure 5—Fugitive—Episode 7—Scene 1… At Carlson’s Place… Gates Read was contacted by Bill Carstairs moments after he was northbound on Interstate 35E, “I want you to come to my new HQ just north of Danger Bay. I am now known as Bill Carlson. I don’t believe your wife will try to have you killed—at least, that is part of our agreement. She knows better than to cross me—I made that abundantly clear.”

“Yes, a little I think.”

“I can handle that.”

Gates Read set about doing just that.

Episode 7—Scene 2… Outside Carlson’s Place… Loren Kleinschmidt was lost. He saw a man standing by the road, “Excuse me, sir, I’m looking for the Village of Danger Bay.”

“Excuse me, sir, I’m looking for the Village of Danger Bay.”

“Just keep going in the way you’re pointed, you’ll arrive in the village in about six miles. Name’s Carlson, Bill Carlson. Welcome to Danger Bay!”

“Thank you,” Loren replied.

Episode 7—Scene 3… Outside Carlson’s Place… After making a few alterations to his appearance—Gates Read made his way to Bill Carlson’s place.

He parked in front and paused a bit before knocking. He knew just how ruthless Carlson/Carstairs could be—and wondered if he went inside—would he come out alive?

Still—Carlson was his only option.

He knocked on the door.

Episode 7—Scene 3… Inside Carlson’s Place… “Welcome, Reverend Read! I noticed that you hesitated before knocking—cold feet—perhaps?”

“Indeed, Bill,” he replied, “Can you blame me? After all, I was set-up by my wife. How did you get her to remove the hit?”

“Her greed.”
