“Are you calling me a chicken?”

On the Lam II Banner ©JBoardmanPREVIOUSLY: They did as they were told—and hoped for the best.

“Thank you,” one of their assailants said, “We’re taking your truck—but, we’re leaving you our cars.”

And with that—they drove away.

Unfortunately for the guards; the bad guys disabled all three cars.

They would have a long walk.

At least it was a nice day.

They didn’t notice.

Episode 6—Scene 3—Also on Historic US 61… Sheriff James Silverthorn IV arrived on scene, “We were robbed of everything—including our armored car!”

“I’m glad you’re alive to talk to me,” Silverthorn replied, “Can you give me a description of the robbers—and how much money you were carrying?”

“It happened so fast,” Ralph replied, “I don’t remember much, but, they were white men—two carrying submachine guns.”

“We were carrying a quarter-million in cash,” Peter added.

After issuing a BOLO on the truck, and dispatching forensics to the scene, Silverthorn drove the men into Danger Bay.

Season 16—Adventure 5—On the Lam—Episode 7—Scene 1—At the Posse Hideout… “You’ve been cleared of all charges, Joey, how’s about we head into town and score some breakfast at Silverthorn’s Café?’

“I dunno—some folks my not have gotten the word.”

“Cock a doodle do,” Boomer replied.

“Are you calling me a chicken?”

“Pretty-much,” Boomer laughed, “What was your first clue?”

“Doodle,” Joey grinned, “Let’s get out of here!”

They packed up—and took their act on the road.

If there were any performances along the way—the chronicles don’t have any such record.

That’s probably for the best.

It should be noted that Joey, in the privacy of his car sang:

Cock a doodle do!
My dame has lost her shoe,
My master’s lost his fiddlestick,
And knows not what to do…

Over and over and over…

Episode 7—Scene 2—On the Codger Lodge deck… The Jones Gang met on the Codger Lodge deck, for absolute privacy—after all, they don’t want the local yokels to have any clue of what they’ve been engaged.

“I would say we were even more successful than we expected.”

“A quarter-mill in one operation,” Jones observed, “And your haul from Pine City is the frosting on the cake.”

“What’s next?” Pete Hanson asked.

“We need to find out where those folks we recruited have been—I’m beginning to think they aren’t who they claim to be.”
