“Sorry—but I WANT my Dodge back!”

SCRAMBLE Banner ©JBoardmanPREVIOUSLY: “Turn around, gang—we’re heading home!” Mac gave the order, “Chris and Wyatt have captured an airplane and are on their way home!”

“YAY!” Joey exclaimed, “Hey Boomer, will you give me a ride to Farkleberry’s?”

“I reckon—but I’m not sure why.”

“My Dodge three-quarter ton should be ready.”

“No—it won’t. I told Lar you changed your mind.”

“What? You did?”

“Just jerking your chain.”

“With you—one never knows.”

“Hey Ralph, let’s have a party when we get home.”

Debra overheard Linda, “PARTY? I’m all over that!”

“Okay, Darlin’” Ralph replied, “Tomorrow?”

“Sure—that’ll give us some time to prepare a feast.”

“Feast? I’m all over that,” Joey said, “I’ll bake a pie!”

Two hours later—Boomer and Joey were on their way to Farkleberry’s Garage.

Season 17—Adventure 3—SCRAMBLE!—Episode 4—Scene 1… On the four-lane headed for Farkleberry’s… “Why are you driving so slow?”

“Seventy in a fifty-five miles-per-hour zone is ‘so slow,’ Joey?”

“Ten minutes, tops, and you’ll have it back,” Boomer replied, “And then I’ll race you.”

“Only if we go cross-country,” Joey laughed.

Episode 4—Scene 2… Farkleberry’s Garage… “Well, Joey,” Lar Farkleberry grinned, “What do you think?”

“Keystone mags? I didn’t expect that—love it!” Joey exclaimed.

Boomer glanced at the man next Medlar, “One-Eye! Y’ old goat, how are you?”

“I’m great, Boomer,” he replied, “I’ve been on the East Coast learning about salt water fishing.”

“You fished for salt water?” Boomer laughed, “Joey, this is Braddock Farkleberry, Medlar’s little brother, One-Eye, this is Joey Jerkovich—he actually LIKES fish.”

“Pleased to meet you, Joey. Whenever you get the urge, I’ll take you out on the lake where the big fish live.”

“Wow—sure, but—how much?”

“First time—free as a crewman.”

“That works for me.”

Episode 4—Scene 3… A Party at the Halvorson’s Place… Rick Nelson’s “Garden Party” plays in the background for this scene, GENTLE READER

Went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends
A chance to share old memories and play our songs again
When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name
No one recognized me, I didn’t look the same…

A Party at Halvorson’s place ©JBoardmanWent to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends…”

“Everyone” is a bit of an overstatement—the party was attended by Linda and Ralph Halvorson (well-DUH—they were the hosts), Wyatt & Chris Earp, Debra Wennen-Miller, Carl & Collie McIntyre, Joey Jerkovich, and Boomer & Teresa Boardman.

We’ll leave the “posse” and their small-talk and move-on to the antics of the “Recreational Airforce.”
