“A true warrior never stops paying dues.”

BATTLE Banner ©JBoardmanPREVIOUSLY: Inside Fort Wabanquot… Colonel Bell met with Lieutenant Adams in the fort commander’s office, “This is an impressive fort—thick granite walls impervious to any known artillery round and a nearly impenetrable forest behind it.”

“It is all that—but, it has weaknesses as well,” Lt. Adams replied, “It’s not populated by thick, granite soldiers. It has limited supplies of food & ammunition due to its small size—so it would fall rather quickly if under siege by a trained army.”

“Good that we’re not facing such an army.”

“Colonel—do not underestimate Colonel Red Cloud—he is learned in modern military tactics, as well as Native tactics—the tactics which defeated Custer.”

“I never underestimate my enemies, Lieutenant, I won’t underestimate Red Cloud.”

“Gentlemen—get your wagons,” Boomer instructed, “We’re moving-out to support our friends where needed.”

“No—we’re not leaving town,” Big Mike replied, “We’re staying here to protect the village. This is our home.”

Episode 5—Scene 3… The Village of Danger Bay… “We will join you,” Old Samuel Silverthorn said, “My son James and I offer our services to help defend our home.”

“We would be honored to have such warriors among our number,” Captain Boomer was almost moved to tears, “But Samuel—you have paid your dues over many years as a warrior.”

“With all respect, Captain,” Samuel replied, “A true warrior never stops paying dues.”

James & Samuel Silverthorn volunteered ©JBoardman“A true warrior never stops paying dues.”

“If we may—we’d like to gather our supplies,” James added, “And pay the price of our decision to our wives.”

“Indeed, you shall, my husband,” Anpaytoo (Ani) Silverthorn retorted, “Indeed you shall.”

After the necessary preparations (and in Samuel’s case, ‘paying the price’), they rode past the lumberjacks—where Samuel was heard to mutter, “cowards,” on their way to danger.
