“What can we do for you, Colonel?”

“Not at all—he was much-better looking.”

“What brings you here—besides your horses?”

“Fugitives from Danger Bay—they thought they had safely escaped on a train.”

“How long before they arrive?”

“A week,” Chris guessed, “Maybe longer.”

“Good,” Hickok replied, “That will give us plenty of time to prepare a surprise party in their honor.”

Episode 5—Scene 3… Two weeks later in Deadwood, Dakota Territory… Colonel Bell’s Train (finally) arrived in Deadwood—they’d had a couple of (Beagamute-assisted) breakdowns along the way.

Bell and company went directly to the to the Nuttal & Mann’s saloon as their rough journey had raised a powerful thirst—that could only be cured by several jiggers of rot-gut whisky.

Of COURSE, they were observed (and overheard) by a ghost critter or two.

Of COURSE, the ghost critters quickly reported their presence to the posse.

Of COURSE, Bell began recruiting hired-guns from among the saloon’s customers.

Of COURSE, GENTLE READER, This, is the point where we end this Episode…

Season 17—Adventure 6—The Search—Episode 6—Scene 1… Inside Nuttal & Mann’s Saloon…

William Carstairs, his younger brother, Andrew, met with Colonel Bell, “What can we do for you, Colonel?”

“A more correct question,” Bell replied, “What may I do for you, Mr. Carstairs?”

“Okay—tell me more.”

“Throw-in with us and I can guaranty you will be rich beyond your wildest dreams.”

“And you somehow know what, exactly, those dreams might be?”

“You don’t wish to be rich?” Bell asked.

“Wealth is not all that important to me,” Carstairs replied, “We have accumulated a large fortune over the past many years, as my little brother is a skilled money manager.”

“What would it take for you to join us?”

“For you to join US instead,” Carstairs replied, “We’ve never been driven out of any town—much less a county or territory.”

To say the Bell was flabbergasted, would be an understatement.

To say the Kai Braveheart had to tell his living friends—would also be an understatement.

Episode 6—Scene 2… At the Tombstone Marshal’s Office… Kai materialized and reported what heard at Nuttal & Mann’s Saloon, “We’re in!” he exclaimed, “Carstairs extended the bait, and took-over the operation”

“Good Boy,” Linda replied, “I must have a doggie-treat here somewhere for you!”

“Thank you,” Kai replied, “But I’m a ghost—treats are impossible for me to eat.”

“I forgot.”

“It’s the thought…”

“I believe we should give Carstairs some time to establish his creds,” Jimmy Hickok suggested, “He will set-up a recruiting place to add people to his ‘army,’ and I have found some possible recruits for him.”

“Can we assume those recruits have appropriate credentials?” Chris Earp asked.

“Oh yes,” Hickok replied, “All are reformed ex-cons and personal friends. We can trust them—to a point. Carstairs will ensure they don’t pass that point.”

Our story will be Continued…

Nice to hang out with the past. I am surprised Wyatt and Hickok don’t have things to talk about.
