“Forward—at the trot”

The Fugitive Banner ©JBoardmanPREVIOUSLY: “Well Jason, what do you think of our recruiting effort, thus far?”

“Not much—too many, too fast,” Cooper replied, “There may be a lot of good men there, it’s true, but we don’t have the internet to assist us checking-out their references.”

“The what-net?”

“From the future,” Cooper laughed.

Jones took Cooper’s answer as a joke and laughed as well.

Episode 6—Scene 3… Inside the Posse HQ… An out-of-breath Flutters arrived, “There are now at least 100 new men with Jones!”

“Are you sure?” Mac asked.

“Yes—give or take ten men,” Flutters replied.

“Oh BOY!” Joey exclaimed.

“Ya THINK?” Boomer cracked-wise.

“This time? Yes.”

“I agree.”

“Maybe now would be a good time to involve the Silverthorn Riders,” AJ suggested.

“Do it,” Boomer agreed.

AJ headed to the Silverthorn General Store—where he met with James & Samuel Silverthorn.

Season 17—Adventure 7—The Fugitive—Episode 7—Scene 1… Inside Silverthorn’s General Store… “We need your help.”

“Sure, AJ,” Samuel Silverthorn replied, “Supplies?”

“No sir, we need warriors,” AJ replied, “Wilson Jones is preparing to raid Moosehead County, and has over one-hundred men under his command—we are but seven.”

Samuel turned to his son, James, “Assemble the riders.”

“Yes, Father,” James replied, “But—we are few.”

Samuel turned to AJ, “What of the troops at Fort Wabanquot?”

“That will be my next stop, Samuel.”

“You’re riding alone?”

“No Samuel,” AJ replied, “My horse will accompany me.”

“Sentient horse?”

“Yes—she is,” AJ replied, “Akecheta, or Fighter, in English is also a wise-ass.

“THAT—somehow seems fitting.”

“I’d best get on the road,” AJ replied, “Time’s a-wasting.”

Episode 7—Scene 3… Inside Fort Wabanquot Commander’s Office… “Good day Captain Justin.”

“Good day Captain Justin.”

“Ah—Sergeant Boardman,” What may I do for you?”

“Muster your troopers, sir,” AJ replied, “We’ll soon be attacked by somewhere by nearly 100 gunmen.”

“By whose orders?”

“Captain Boomer.”

“I don’t answer to him.”

“Check your telegraph—you’ll find your orders from Brigadier-General Foster.”

Justin was generally considered a good officer—but not always quick to check-in with his sergeant for messages—and the sergeant isn’t the brightest oil-lamp in the room.

Justin checked the messages and the completely embarrassed captain soon ordered his troopers to mount-up, “Take the lead, Sergeant.”

“Yes sir,” AJ replied, “Forward at the trot!”

Episode 7—Scene 3… Meanwhile, Wilson Jones’ army was on the move… As far as the eye could see (or—the limits of my imageGENTLE READER™) they rode towards Moosehead County.

They didn’t notice Flutters.

That just might be a good thing.
