On the road outside Deadwood

Manhunt Banner ©J. BoardmanPreviously: “Forever wiped?” Chris asked.

“No, unfortunately,” She replied, “But long enough for you go back inside and eavesdrop.”

“Thank you, Cu-Cu,” Chris replied as they went back inside, where they overheard Willie Jones talking to a few of the regular patrons, “Yes gentlemen, you heard right, Mrs. Smith and I bought the saloon.”

“You gonna make any changes,” the man carrying a Henry rifle asked.

“Only for the better, my friend, only for the better.”

“That’s good to know,” he replied.

With that—Chris and Wyatt Earp—exited stage-right.

Just in a nick-of-time as Juco appeared just after they left.

(WHEW—GENTLE READER™! That was a close-call!)

Episode 3… Scene 2… Outside Nuttal & Mann’s Saloon… Chris & Wyatt Earp rode out of town—hoping that no-one figured-out who they were—and why they were there.

“Do you believe they’ll run the saloon as they claimed?”

“No, Chris,” Wyatt replied, “I don’t. Maybe at first—but the lure of easy-money will be too strong.”

“Will you look at all those riders heading this way?” Linda asked.

“Do you reckon they’re bandits?” Joey asked.

“I reckon we’d best be prepared to fight,” Chris Earp replied, “Better un-loop your revolvers.”

As the riders approached—they showed no signs of aggression.

The man at the head of the riders waved and said, “I hear there’s new people running Nuttal & Mann’s Saloon—is that true?”

“It is,” Wyatt replied, “And it seems they’re running some honest games of chance.”

YEE-HAW!” the man replied, “C’mon fellas—let’s git going!”

WHEW!” Boomer exclaimed, “We didn’t have to shoot anyone.”

“And that’s a good thing?” Chris cracked-wise.

Wyatt gave Chris “the look,” and, of course, Chris laughed.

Episode 4… Scene 2… Inside the Nuttal & Mann’s Saloon Office… Janet Smith, Willie Jones, John Kramer, and James Kramer met to discuss business when Juco appeared, “The new people in town—like you—are from the Twenty-first Century!”

“Are you sure?” Smith asked.

“You DOUBT my word?” Juco thundered.

“No, we don’t,” Willie Jones replied, “We’ll hunt them down and kill them.”

“You’d better be successful, or I will let them catch and kill you!”

Episode 4… Scene 3… Several hours later, on the road outside Deadwood… The Posse became aware they were being followed, “Isn’t this interesting?”

“Isn’t what interesting, Linda,” Chris asked.

“We’re are being followed,” she replied, “I couldn’t help but notice that they slowed their pace when they when they were as close as they are now.”

“Our sentient horses are much faster than theirs,” Boomer said.

“Yes, we are,” Boomer’s horse, Pal agreed, “Just give us the word.”

“The word is given, Pal, Tulip, Spot, Trigger and Blackjack,” Chris Earp agreed, “Run like the wind!”

And they did just that!
