“You think you can handle that job?”

Previously:

I spoke with Cujo and she said, ‘This is a surprise to me as well, you must deal with this and stay by Alpha-Jack’s side and hope for the best.’ I will do as she said.”

We’ll talk more, now track Derby.”

It was nightfall when Big Mac [Now known as “Carl Mack”] and Larry brazenly rode through Dreadwood, not caring if they were noticed, and hoping word would get to Boomer. Neither was the case—they were not noticed and Boomer received no such word.

Season VI, Chapter 6 Renegade Marshal, Episode 3:

They traveled in silence, mile after lonely mile, tracking Derby and soon were in Nebraska—Daisy’s tail seemingly lost its nearly constant wag, she only spoke and only as much as necessary when a directional change was needed.

Pal, for his part, kept his counsel…

Pal, for his part, kept his counsel, and thus far, at least, said nothing either to Boomer or Daisy, but he too was saddened by their estrangement. He decided that when they camped for the night, he would attempt to speak privately with Daisy.

They were traveling, not tracking…

Carl and Larry, as pure dumb luck would have it, were following the same trail south out of Dakota Territory into Nebraska. They were traveling, not tracking, so they didn’t notice the faint signs left by the hooves and paws, respectively, of Pal and Daisy.

Knowing that Dreadwood still, and perhaps now more than ever, required a marshal, Erik reluctantly pulled a badge out of the drawer in the marshal’s desk.

McLintock walked in just as Erik was sticking the badge on his lapel…

McLintock walked in just as Erik was sticking the badge on his lapel, “You think you can handle that job?”

I can, but it would help if I can find a reliable deputy—one who knows his way around a Colt and is not too particular what he’s asked to do—any suggestions?”

Without Boomer Jack to back you up, why exactly would I help you?”

With amazing speed when one considers that Professor Hare could never be mistaken for a shootist, he drew his Navy Colt .44 and pointed it at McLintock’s chest, “You’re correct—I’ll withdraw that request, and as a bonus, I’ll not kill you where you stand. Do not cross me, the cost to you is too dear.”

Just then the door opened and a tall man with long golden hair walked in, “Good evening, Marshal, it appears you might need my help…”
