He’d found their spies

Previously: “Settle-down Debra,” Mac rumbled—with a wide grin, “Tug captains—Lyle Pettigrew says there are no big boats scheduled to arrive in port for two weeks, so tug captains—give your crews the next two weeks off…”

“And have the brawlers visit the Moosehead City bars—right?”

“Boomer said you were quick, Joey. Yes, exactly, but brawling is not necessary—watching, listening and otherwise gathering information.”

“Alphonso said the plan was to have two operatives hanging-out—just observing. They’ll be followed by several hit-squads.”

“Is there a way to stop those hit-squads before they gather?”

“They’re coming from Chicago. AJ? I’ll need you to watch for incoming flight-plan notifications.”

“We could close the airfield for runway maintenance.”

“Do it!”

Season 13—Adventure 4—Moosehead County—Episode 7—Scene 1… At Silverthorn’s Café…

It wasn’t pretty—Alphonso managed to land “Pat III” wheel-side-down—which is considered more than acceptable for a first attempt, “Good job—we only bounced twice. My first landing was four bounces.”

Twenty minutes later they were parked in front of Silverthorn’s Café, “I just received a message from Mac informing me two flights from Chicago have been diverted to Duluth—which means we can spend some recovery time here.”

“Where’s Sarah?” Alphonso asked, “Is she safe?”

“Where’s Sarah?” Alphonso asked, “Is she safe?”

“Let me check,” Boomer replied as he checked his phone for messages, “Yep, she’s quite safe—and decorating your new home. We can take the time to get caught-up—let’s go inside. Call her and have her join us.”

“I ummm—left my phone in my car…”

“It’s good to know I’m not the only one,” Boomer grinned, “Here, use mine. I’ll be inside.”

Moosehead County—Episode 7—Scene 2… Moosehead City… Captains Debra Wennen-Miller and Joey Jerkovich and their respective crews arrived by bus (life in the bus lane?) and spread-out into the local bars—with orders not to start any trouble. Finish it—only if necessary.

Tugboat crews arrived in Moosehead City

In two of the bars—it WAS necessary—and over in minutes. No fights, however, occurred in the “Dive Bar,” where Debra and Joey were holding-court regaling their victims with tall-tales of their exploits on the big lake. Moosehead City, the only town in Moosehead County not on the Lake Superior shore, was the perfect venue for such tales.

There were two fellows who seemed less than regaled by their tales—Joey sidled over and with body language alone, suggested they should be regaled.

Getting no response, Joey returned to Debra’s side and winked—he’d found their spies.
